Do you think this Tourmaline would work for this setting?

I had the distinct pleasure of going to Finland this summer and meeting with Annette Tillander who did a mother's ring for a lady on here (I'm sorry that I don't remember who it was exactly) that was just stunning. I am having one of her signature flower rings made, but we've been trying to find a nice tourmaline of about 9mm or a little more. I came across this one today and purchased it, but I'm not sure if it would work for this setting. What do you think?

I can't send a picture of the setting since the website is flash, but it is the first ring you see when the site opens;

It won't have the side stones since it is a bigger stone. I'm not sure about the portuguese cut and whether the stone will be too dark, but I didn't want to miss out on it since I've been looking for one for awhile
Thanks everyone!

I think that stone would look amazing in any setting! I think it would like a mum or a carnation.

Is this the setting you wanted?

After looking at her site it looks like she's worked with tourmaline before. I went to the gallery page and saw some gold flower rings there (no diamonds) I think it would work but you probably need to see what the stone looks like when you get it to know more about what type of metal to use.

Thank you for posting the ring. How did you do that?
I definitely want a pink tourmaline and we're going to do it in palladium, so, I was looking for a softer pink instead of a bright stone. She had one in a deeper color in the window and it was gorgeous, but was a little dark for my liking. We've just been trying to find a good stone and I love the fact that this one is flawless. Gary did point out to me that Portuguese cuts tend to be deeper, so, that might be an issue.

I think the stone is beautiful and I absolutely LOVE that setting. I really enjoyed looking through her website.

I just took a screen capture (cntrl+print screen) that copies your screen. You can then paste it into something like paint and edit it there.

MariedTiger's children's ring is in her gallery!!! That's the Pricescoper you're thinking of. Wow, so that is the famous and fantastic person that did that ring. Some of the nicest workmanship I have ever seen on Pricescope. I'm sure you're ring will be gorgeous!!

Yes, that's her... I couldn't remember the pricescope name, but I remembered that ring. Annette even has a picture of it in her little catalog of sorts she has at her shop. I honestly could have walked away with anything from her studio and have been thrilled. Everything was beautiful! I hope this is just the first of many projects with her.

Tourmaline Lover- what do you think of the stone? It may not work for the ring because of the cut, but would you keep it anyways? :)

i think the next time my sister goes to finland she's going to have to do a little shopping for me! or better yet, i'll have to accompany her

i think that stone is beautiful and is definately worth having it sent to you to see in person, it will sit a little higher but i think it will look fabulous. times like this i wish my fingers were bigger! what size ring will it be?

From a cutting standpoint, it's very nice.

It also has a nice tone for tourmaline, I suspect it won't black out as many of these gems do.

As for the color, I'm not a fan of orangey pinks, but I know some people like them. It's a matter of personal taste in that regard. :))

It's not a pure pink if you don't mind that colour. The Portuguese cutting will make the lower RI material dazzle which is a good thing though as you already know, I'm not sure how it will work out with the extra depth of the stone. Also, I'm not sure if it's a good candidate for palladium which tends to be grayish. The stone feels like it's going to do better in a warmer metal colour (yellow and rose).

I love those settings, what a nice site to browse!!!!

She does very nice work! Enjoyed looking through her site, and I think your stone would be a knockout in that ring, if you don't mind it sitting a bit higher. I like that peachy tone, personally. Let us know what you think when it arrives!

I think that stone would make a very flowering looking flower ring!
