on which stone to buy? and from which vendors to buy from?

Absolutely! I know that I certainly was.

While we had already pretty much educated ourselves and found our perfect diamond for my ering prior to becoming a newbie on PS, as a diamond lover who was totally averse to buying online, I still wanted so badly to buy a diamond from WF because of all the rave reviews.
I couldn''t help myself and took the plunge. I''m so happy that I did. I got my mom a diamond for her ering to replace the one she lost so long ago and it is everything that WF and PS''ers promised that it would be.

Most definately! Especially those who aren''t familair with internet shopping. I think some people are also steered towards, getting the "best quality" when they were actually planning on just buying the mall special. I wonder if any of the receipients of the ideal/heart&arrows/pricescope rings is disappointed that they didn''t get the "Mall special".

I helped my best friend buy a ring from Craigslist. It was a WF ACA! She''s knows all about PS from me and my diamond searches so she trusted my opinion when I told her an ACA set in a WF setting was going to be gorgeous. And it is! We met the seller who had all the WF paperwork, we has a jeweler verify the AGS number, and exchanged money in the parking lot!!

Who in their right mind would do that if it were not for PS and knowing what a find the WF ring was. So I put my friend in the pre-newbie category.

Isn''t that the point of the forum''s existence?

And as a side note, I really despise that emoticon. It always makes me feel like whoever is using it is being condescending, regardless of what they''ve typed before/after it.

Agreed on both points.

If I had the e-ring purchase to do over I'd probably do it very differently. I think my money could have gone further and my stone could have been a better cut from a dealer who does upgrades as well. What's not to lose by being influenced by PS? I've rarely seen PS members try to convince people to spend more money so the newbie really has nothing to lose.

I use the eye roll for a bit more than Gwen must do, mostly if I'm annoyed (and then my sister did this, can you believe it, type of thing), but they do seem condescending.

as a newbie and amazed about the length and depth of information on this site ...i would say yes.... this website offers a consumer in depth knowledge on diamonds as well as helping hands to select an appropriate stone... ( you guys know who you are).... i think this is the only good forum out there... lol.. if didnt come across this im dreaded to think where i would have purshased a diamond.....

i dont think newbies are swayed on vendor sides... i think the rep. companies are there to help and assist and if a sale happens it happens... ive never been pressurised and i do ask alot of questions.. what do they say.. this is like the thrid biggest purschase someone would make ....

by the way im still looking for my perfect stone....

Definitely....Anyone who is searching for diamonds using the internet either to buy, or just for information can't help but stumble onto Pricescope. If you have very little diamond knowledge, its like meeting a community that have a scientific method of selecting the best diamond and getting the best price. And on top of all that, most of the folk who are buying from the 'preferred vendors' all seem to have a wonderful buying experience! So you'd be hard pressed not to be influenced by the crowd.

And...just as a side note. There's nothing wrong with

Me too!

Glad to know that's not what you (DF) meant--I always thought it was a bit odd that you seemed to be annoyed at the topics you were starting...

I always looked at it and thought that he thought the questions he was asking were dumb. So then I''d think, then why are you asking them??

Of course they were/aren''t dumb!

I like that one too Gwen. The "title" for it was "hmmmm".

I view PS as a version of "Consumer Reports." Choices are available, vendors are listed,
preferences are given..ultimately YOU decide what''s important to you.

I also had to add that the people on here influenced me to look at cut and to purchase from whiteflash. I thought I''d be getting a 1 carat g color I1 princess and ends up I LOVE my 1.71 ct, premium cut J color VS1 princess!!!

Why wouldn''t you take advice from those who have "been there, done that"? If I had not found Pricescope, I would not have found out about Good Old Gold and I would not have my Jubilee cut diamond. Not to mention the fact that PS is just good clean fun!

So true!

I can''t imagine how people bought diamonds without PS. Where else can you get both real customer experiences and advice by neutral professionals?

Definitely influenced me and also gives my peace of mind on my soon to be purchase.

Definitely, and I certainly took the advice! However, there are still those who are super stubborn and still insist on buying from ebay or some "family friend" jeweler with frozen spit diamonds.

I certainly was influenced and certainly am thankful I found PS before buying my anniversary diamond! Then, once I understood about cut quality, I had to replace my studs with ideal cut stones, too! I am really glad I didn''t overspend on inferior quality diamonds. And I would have, because I did comparison shop locally. Good Old Gold and WhiteFlash have a superior in-house selection of stones and I am really glad to have stones from them!

I agree with Gwendolyn.

I''m a "newbie." I have lurked for a couple months. I''m doing preliminary engagement ring research. I''m hoping to pop the question in October. My girlfriend''s favorite holiday is Halloween. I''m pretty thorough. I think that new people on this forum are definitely influenced by this site, and I think they are also pushed to buy from certain vendors. This is fine.
It''s owned by Whiteflash right?

Welcome to PriceScope.

Um, this site is not owned by Whiteflash, although it might seem that way at times.

I agree that often new people are pushed to buy from certain vendors. I also believe that the advice comes from satisfied customers, and frankly, the recommended vendors are probably a whole lot better than what the newbie was planning to do without the advice. But, you are certainly free to learn here, then make your own decisions.

There is such a huge amount of information on this website, that is truly helpful ( and from the right people

) This website has helped me not only choose my own engagement ring with my boyfriend ( which a lot of people scuff at but I think I would rather have one i love then just a pretty ring) but has helped me choose my own style. I love this website!
