Hi Everyone,
I have been browsing through this great website over the last week and have enjoyed soaking up the wealth of knowledge. My boyfriend and I have just made a purchase on a diamond in a really short amount of time. We are planning to get engaged later this fall and our story is a little unusual in that I get to pick out the entire ring before I leave to go abroad for 4 months. Since I am leaving this Friday, we had to pick out a diamond relatively quickly since I am particular about what I want.
So without further ado, here's what we ended up with:
Carat Weight: 1.191 cts.
Certification: AGS
Measurements: 6.83-6.86 x 4.16mm
Cut Grade: AGS Ideal 0
Color Grade: AGS 1.5 (G)
Clarity Grade: AGS 4 (VS2)
Fluorescence: Negligible
Table: 56.2%
Depth: 60.8%
Culet: Pointed
Crown Angle: 34.2
Pavilion Angle: 40.7
The HCA score came out to be 0.8, with all parameters as Excellent except for spread which was Very Good. We paid $8200 for this diamond from James Allen (who is fantastic and I will post more about them when I get the actual ring!) and am waiting for the diamond to be set and appraised. I've also included a magnified picture of the diamond sent to us by the vendor.
Overall, I have a few questions for the experts on this site:
1) Is this a pretty good diamond in terms of the cut? What is your opinion on the value for this diamond against what I paid for?
2) The AGS report only has Feather listed under the Key to Symbols section. Is that the big mark in the picture at 1'clock? I have heard that feathers near the girdle are a concern, can you tell if I should be worried about ANY of the inclusions on here?
3) Is it true that if a diamond gets rated as ideal in cut by the AGS that Polish, Symmetry, Light Performance, Proportion Factors, and Finish are also all ideal? The section that usually reports this was cut off in the e-AGS cert I got. I'm trying to figure out if this is an AGS000 diamond.
Any feedback or input is well appreciated! I just hope I did my homework well and didn't end up wasting my boyfriend's hard-earned money! I am a poor grad student myself and have learned to seek value in everything I buy!
Thanks again for everything! Will definitely post pics (handshots of course) when I get engaged...
