Do you think Americans are obsessed with their pets?

While I draw the line at dresses and ridiculous foo foo clothes, my Boston terrier, a single-coated breed, needs a good down jacket and boots in the winter. If it''s acceptable for Huskies to run the Iditarod in boots, then my Boston terrier is darn well going to get them for hiking in the snow in CT and VT, especially when the temperature drops below freezing.

I actually believe that there are more people that don''t give their pets enough time and attention than those who spoil them. I love my dog and believe that if you adopt a pet you should do the best you can for them. You should make commitments about their care ahead of time and stick to those even when it gets hard.

I agree that a dog especially needs to know who''s boss but I think that can be done in a loving way.

Now, with that said, I find it a little weird when people carry their dogs everywhere. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that I''m more of a big dog person but I often wonder - do you REALLY think your dog wants to be at the mall? Probably not - I''m guessing they''ll be just as happy or more so at home on the sofa!

yea, I have a little pooch but I don''t do that. I do carry her into our local coffee shop but that''s because they know me and it''s usually not more than 3-5 minutes.

I am guilty of this, but I don''t carry him, he walks. In my defense I live in Europe and its the norm. I also do it because it socializes him and he will be trained as a therapy dog when we move back so its important he behaves and is around people. Also I hate that he is home alone all day when we are at work, so I like that he gets out and about and I don''t feel bad when I run my errands.

I am obsessed with my cats for sure because I love them to pieces~! (sometimes more than my husband, hehehe)
I personally don''t have a problem with people treating their pets "too well", as long as it does not take away rights from other human being.
