Do you think a "small" diamond would work in a Leon Mege setting?

I have a 0.60ct square cushion in a temporary setting. I may take advantage of GOG''s upgrade policy and go to a 0.80ct before choosing a permanent setting, though I won''t go any bigger. I absolutely love Leon Mege''s work-it is such high quality and I really want to set my stone in something special. I am leaning towards a plain solitaire with a thin band.

I would love to know from anyone who has experience of his work whether you think a stone of this size would work. Or does his work require something a little grander?!!

Also can anyone give a rough idea of what such a setting would cost from him?

Thanks.

His simple solitaire are about $1500, though it varies. And he will set "small" diamonds, just don''t be insulted when he calls it little

LOL.

OP, in case you didn''t know, someone posted that he called her diamond little, and this caused her a lot of distress. If I remember, her diamond was anything but little, but anyway...

He called my diamond small too but I wasn''t offended. He corrected himself that it wasn''t a small diamond but small for the fancy setting that I wanted. :P

I am sure your setting will look lovely but you just have to ask yourself if you want to spend the money towards the setting or towards a bigger diamond.

I think it would look great. I have used Leon, and am thinking of something else to work with him on.

For my square emerald cut, aka generic asscher I used Quest jewelers. They do great work. So just giving you another option.

Leon did the setting for the Oval I bought from GOG. Leon sourced the half moons, did a fab job.

Quest , I worked with via emails and phone calls.

Good luck!!!

Thanks everyone. I have read about Leon a lot on here so understand that he might not be very complimentary about my "little" stone! Nonetheless I will not be insulted and his work is fabulous.

Thanks for the tips.

I think LM''s work would be perfect for a smaller stone because it''s so fine and dainty! He has never been anything but charming and helpful to me on the phone and in emails, so don''t be too afraid - he is a straightshooter though :)

Kaleigh-how do the prices of custom work with Quest compare to Leon?

I think a simple solitaire from him would be lovely with a .8 cushion. I think, from some of the posts on here, that his ''issue'' with smaller stones is that sometimes people want them set in ways that won''t work, or won''t compliment them. I can''t imagine that being the case with a solitiare.

ditto this. i think his work would actually be among the best you could find to show off a medium sized diamond (i''m sorry i cant bring myself to call a .8 stone ''small''). make sure you let us know what you decide - i''ll be very interested to see how this project progresses.

good luck!

Thanks again. I really didn''t expect so may replies and appreciate it. I am feeling very motivated now towards doing this project with Leon due to all the positive words! I promise to keep you posted.

I contacted him about a project a while back. He was really polite about my small, not too well cut stone. He was kind about it. I didn''t even go ahead with the project in the end, and he was still very, very nice.

I like him and I''d ask for a quote. I would like to have him make me a ring in the future, his work is just stunning.

I agree Mrs Mitchell. His work is just exquisite. I hope to proceed with this project.

I love admiring all these well sized stones on here but I like very simple and understated jewelery so am very happy with the size of my "little" stone!!! However if I could have it set in a Leon that would really complete it for me!

Will keep you all posted.

The whole story about Leon Mege is not in this tread.
I've been at PS almost 5 years and it seems people describe their experience with LM as Heaven or Hell.

Slow down; do a careful PS search for all the horrible things Leon has done to people.
Get more information before making a decision.

Many here live by, "If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all."
Well, that's fine in your personal life but on a consumer forum that creates a skewed picture.

Lots of money is at stake, and there are many people who have had nightmare experiences with Leon Mege.

I think potential clients should have the whole story about this controversial vendor.
Certain types of people work well with him, others not.
Which type are you?
After reading everything if you still want to give him your business so be it.
One thing seems to be indisputable; he does superb work.

Is there absolutely no one else that does the same quality and same type of work?

is he really the only benchman that does handmade and not cast?

Would be interested to hear an answer to your question sparklyforever. Hopefully someone will reply.

Yes me too......
