Do you suffer from insect bites?

For some reasons, probably the same reasons why green jade fades in colour when I wore a pendant around my neck in the past, I seldom get insect bites, unlike some people I know.

Some would suffer bad allergic reactions with huge swelling and puffiness, so bad the wounds could end up with infected.

I eat garlic and Marmite in my diet, which appears to help, especially from mosquitoes and midges.

How about you?

DK :))

I've read that people with Type O blood are bitten more often than other blood types by a substantial margin.

Unfortunately, I have type O blood and mosquitos think I am delicious. My daughter (also Type O) has huge reactions to bites and her entire forearm has become red and swollen from a single bite. I can't leave my bites alone so I don't do myself any favors in terms of minimizing the after effects.

They love me! I have awful reactions to bites!

I'm one of the lucky ones I guess. Mosquitoes don't bite me. Type A blood, but I don't think that matters because they devour my DD2 most, and DD1 second most. I have had my share of wasp stings though. I'm not afraid of them, but they seem drawn to me. I even stepped on 2!

On the bugs love me. I get huge red welts that take ages to heal!

A number of years ago I went on holiday to mexico. I took with me some lovely new toiletries as a treat. I got eaten alive and only twigged on in the second week that my shower gel had real fruit extract in it!

My whole immediate family is Type O blood, but somehow I get bitten the most out of everybody I know in the family. I think it has to do with my veins being closer to the surface of the skin. It's uncanny how mosquitoes never fail to find me when they come out in the evening. I diffuse essential oils in hopes of keeping bugs out of my room.

Mosquitos love me, alas. They don't seem to bite my husband.
On our honeymoon, we spent one night at a B&B near the volcanos on the Big Island. I was bitten 11 times that night; he didn't get a single bite.

Solution: Have all your blood drained.

No food? No dinner for diners.

This is me. Type O coupled with a clotting disorder, those pesky critters latch on & have the time of their lives with my thin, gushing blood! I get huge wields & have often had to have antibiotics. I had a disgusting horse fly bite last month that was painful, hot & big, so I got my husband to draw around it & by morning, the burning & redness had travelled another inch. Yuk!

I'm the one who has 20 bites per every other person 1.....

To everyone who's Type O and a mosquito magnet, it consoles me that Type O is the least susceptible to serious cases of COVID-19.

Interesting re: blood group, as I am a rare AB!

DK

I'm Type B and love garlic, but am a mosquito magnet. I am one of the unfortunate ones described by DK - one single bite can swell an entire limb and takes ages to go away. I've also been hospitalized for a bite that caused a blood infection!

When we were kids before school camps we always ate plenty of vegemite or marmite in the weeks before
i think its the vitiman B
you know like how borroca makes your sweat smell funny

Ive had a couple of horrible infected bites but i don't think im allergic rather i must have scratched them with dirty finger nails maybe ?

Blood type B and a major mosquito (and all insect) magnet. They’ll swell up into fluid filled blisters that do not resolve for months, then become keloid scars that lasts years. The doctor who saw me for some bites thought I had shingles (huge clusters that kept getting worse).

I wear long sleeves and pants, spray repellent and still get bitten when no one else does. I don’t wear perfume or scents either.

My meals are very garlic heavy too!

Why the mention of garlic? I think a fair number of people eat garlic and still get bitten. By this point, most mosquitoes in the world have evolved to tolerate garlic in the humans' blood.

HI:

No, but my nephew does. Absolutely brutal.:((

cheers--Sharon

True, however may be in combination with my own body chemistry and Marmite, I am not as tasty to them as other people!

BTW, my veins are very deep, so deep that I always have difficulties when I have to give blood.

I’m a bug magnet, the bites swell to the size of eggs.

A nurse told my friend if you take B1 for a week before you go away, the bugs leave you alone. I took it earlier this year, then our trip was cancelled, so didn’t get the chance to try it out.

Mosquitos love me. I don’t remember my blood type but I know I’m not type O. Anyway I also get an extreme reaction to the bite. Swollen and itch hives.

Perhaps I produce more lactic acid and carbon dioxide than those people the mosquitos don’t bite.

My grandma always told me it was because I’m so sweet. ❤️

Yes, mosquitoes love me. But I've always used a product called After Bite on the bites. If you put it on immediately after you get bitten, it won't itch. The active ingredient is ammonia. I think the new version also has baking soda in it.

I love Afterbite. Stings and soothes at the same time!

It's rather unconventional, but I cover my larger bites with minty toothpaste and take a hairdryer to them. The mint and heat help to numb the itch and pain. I've also found Salonpas analgesic patches work well. How did I figure this all out? Desperate times...

Yes, anything to help the situation. Thanks for the tip about the Salonpas patches. Never tried those ...

I will have to try After Bite. I've used all sorts of ointments and cortisone creams but they do nothing to numb the intense itch and pain, short of prescription high strength medication.

I don't get many bug bites however, last month I was bit by a spider while walking and it became infected. Needed a round of antibiotics. Not sure what type of spider as I was not aware of the bite until bed time.

Not so much me, but my husband and daughter both end up with bites often.
A week or so ago we spent most of a gorgeous day outside in the shade. I came in with one bite, my son had none, but my daughter had 10-15. I think the majority of them came while she was laying on the grass watching the clouds as content as could be.
I had her soak in baths with baking soda & lavender Epsom salts. Then treated the bites with witch hazel, aloe with lidocaine, and a calamine spray. Hydrocortisone and neosporin with pain relief didn’t seem to help very much.
I did order some oatmeal (for baths) and After Bite to have on hand, as well as more bug spray for the summer. Hopefully we won’t need them though.

In my family this is true. My ex and my oldest daughter get much less mosquito bites, while me and my youngest get eaten up. They are not type o while my youngest and me are type o. PS I eat alot of garlic, doesn't help. Same with skin so soft. Onjy thing that works is Deet. Thankfully I don't have a big reaction to being bitten; just get lots of bites.

Have you tried picaridin? It's in a few products but I use the Off Family Care Insect Repellant Clean-Feel. I've found it to be just as effective as DEET without the smell or stickiness.

My son, daughter and I get eaten alive, DH not so much. Mine often get huge and swollen and take weeks to go away. It’s the main reason we are screening in our deck next month. Hoping to enjoy the fresh air without suffering the consequences. Type O btw...

My Dd is an absolute mosquito magnet and her bites swell horribly.

Poor thing!!
