Hi All :wavey: Just curious if any of you subscribe to monthly beauty boxes like Birchbox. I'm thinking about it but don't know if it's really worthwhile to get them. Do you have one you enjoy? Any you didn't?

Hello there, my SIL and I subscribe to MyGlam which just recently changed to Ipsy. I've tried other monthly makeup bags, (sorry, I don't remember the names cuz they were short trials) but this one is the one that I kept because everything I get is full sized and amazing.

I have very sensitive skin and Ipsy has been very good so far!

I almost subscribed to Birchbox but then started reading what people were receiving and some would get the good box and others, the dud box, and I didn't want to be stuck each month being bummed out with lame items I would never use... Instead, I do a Sephora order every few months and buy samples on eBay as fun little mid-week treats! There are tons of beauty products on eBay at great prices and it's fun to order a pick-me-up I know I will like!

That is really good to know. I was just thinking about signing up with birch box but Ipsy looks much better. Is there a waiting list that you know of?

I believe there is a waiting list. I had to take my test and wait about three months or so I believe.

You guys are such enablers. I just signed up! Said I'll get my first kit mid November.

Awesome! Did you do Ipsy? I'm glad there wasn't a waiting list!

Yep. Ipsy. Can't wait!

Thank you for all of the responses!!! I'm glad I didn't sign up with Birchbox. I'll for sure check Ipsy out! Thanks!!

Can you let us know what they send you? After you posted, I did look up Ipsy and was soooo tempted to sign up. It took a lot of self control not to join!

HI:

As ususal, I am confused.

Why would you pay for products that you can receive for free at the beauty counter?

I no longer buy products I have not sampled first. In the case where there is no actual formal sample--they decant one for me.

Even the high end fragrances (aka Creed) have samples!

cheers--Sharon

I agree that you can literally get any sample you want to try before you buy. Even before I decided to use La Mer, they gave me a good size sample. But, I think that these makeup kits are fun. For only 10 dollars a month, you get multiple things that you can try that maybe you never would have before. And to buy every single one of those things, it'll cost a lot more money.

Ohhh man....you guys are bad. I just subscribed to Ipsy

I didn't do a whole year - just month to month.

Only month to month - would you guys want to do a thread for the stuff we get each month??? I would be interested in seeing what others get!

Sounds fun :) I did realize that SIL's bag and mine have different color lipsticks and shadow palettes. The cleansers or the scrubs may be the same but we've got different skin tones :)

I've never heard of this before!

It's not the right kind of thing for me because I use very minimal products, but this would make an AWESOME gift for some of my friends. Thank you!

I tried Birchbox for a few months. My first was ok, second was awesome, and then the third was total BS.. yucky stuff. The best thing that I got that month was BAND-AIDS. Yep. So I decided to quit. I can buy my own band-aids if I want them.

Consider me influenced...I signed up this morning lol :)

When we were teens, my sister subscribed to similar service. Every month, she would receive some products and how to on make up, skin and hair care, etc. It was a very good way for a young person to learn to wear make up (then again, it was the 80s so some of the suggested looks were... interesting).

I can see how this kind of service would be fun for women who like to experiment and try new looks - always something new without a lot of expense or guilt.

Were they, at least, Hello Kitty or The Avenger's?

cheers--Sharon

Haven, you are brilliant! I have been searching for something to give my sister-in-law and her daughter and this is perfect, I never would have thought of giving it as a gift!

PS strikes again!

I just signed up too! I have Rosemead though and only wear bare minerals on my face but I love different shadows and things to try. I figure whatever I can't use would make a nice beauty bag gift to someone ;) and also being so busy in school and work, I love the idea of getting a little grab bag every month!!! :appl:

I am thinking about signing up for ipsy but am confused about how to pick which stylist I like. There doesn't seem to be too much information. Who did you choose (for the quiz)?

I'd like to know this as well. This would make a great Christmas present for my mom...the perpetual gift returner.

I had no idea either. I just chose Michelle Phan, because she is the site's creator and I figured she is the most "general". I know nothing about any of them, though.

I love this kind of stuff! Just signed up!

The stylist I picked was the one who's style I liked the most based on their itty bitty picture.

I just got my mailing notification for my box. Looking forward to seeing what's in it!
