All this talk about LO''s sleeping has me thinking sleep.

I can''t remember how I slept before I was pregnant. I know during pregnancy I actually slept really well, but would often get up once a night to go to the bathroom. But I would wake up in the morning feeling totally rested.

My ds has been STTN for a few months now, but I''m definitely still not. I still get up once a night to go to the bathroom, and I usually wake up randomly at least once or twice (I think from dh moving around, etc.), look at the clock and go back to sleep after a few minutes most nights. I also used to be able to sleep through dh getting ready for work, but not so much anymore.

Waking up a few times and then going back to sleep shortly after seems normal to me, but I don''t remember if I used to do that before I was pregnant. So even though I get at least 7 total hours of sleep a night, I definitely don''t wake up feeling well rested and I''m tired all the time. Some days I wish I could just have one night with no noises, no distractions, no interruptions so I could get 8 consecutive hours of sleep.

haha, nope!

That''s why there should be sleep training for moms after the babies are finally STTN!!! lol

I did STTN last night. First night in over a year. I literally closed my eyes at 10:30pm and opened them again at 6am when Alex started stirring up.

No. Since having DS, I cannot fall asleep, let alone STTN. Most nights I''m unable to turn my brain off, even though DS has been STTN for the last few months. I ended up discussing this with my doctor and she prescribed a low dose of Ambien (sp?) to take only when absolutely needed, which has helped.

As someone who needs +8 hours to function normally, it''s frustrating when I can''t fall/stay asleep at the end of the day. I''m blaming it on first-time mom jitters and anxiety and hoping it gets better as time goes on.

Last night was the first night in over a year where I slept the entire night. My LO slept 11 hours and I didn''t wake up once!

If STTN is the 6 hour definition, yes ! hehe. But I almost always have to wake up to pee.

Before pregnancy I would sleep 8-9 hours a night and wake up usually 1x for bathroom, sometimes 2x (I have tiny bladder!).

During pregnancy it was basically the same, I was very lucky to sleep well and only pee 1x or 2x (towards the end). And now it''s again similar...but slightly altered. Ususally 7-8 hours of sleep and 1x pee. But after J wakes up at ~6am and we give him bottle then I go back to sleep at 7am and sleep til 9am usually.

It''ll change when I go back to work and I need to get up probably when he gets his morning bottle, but for now I am savoring it. I LOVE SLEEP.

Haha! I am not pregnant, nor do I have a child, but I''ve NEVER slept through the night. I''m always up multiple times during my sleep. Its terrible!

i used to think i needed 8 hours to function but DS has laid that notion to rest. i can ''function'' on a combined 3 hrs of spotty sleep (albeit not very well).

i also can''t get my brain to stop racing when DS IS sleeping, i think it must be because i''m on high alert, wondering how long i have to sleep before he wakes up again

.

i do wonder if i would feel MORE tired (like you) if i was getting a consistent 7 hours of sleep??

but to answer your question.. no, haven''t slept thru the night in a year - and i probably have another 5 ahead of me

Great thread (since no one ever asks this!).

I haven't STTN since being pregnant and my LO is 18mo's! Granted I get up for every peep she makes (too hot/cold, wants pacifier, got wedged in the corner of the crib, etc.) which maybe I shouldn't but even when she does STTN straight, I wake up and look in the middle of the night! I just think..oh maybe she kicked all her blankets off, let me go look....

I think every preggo would answer a resounding "No"!

not pregnant or a parent, but I sleep through the night about half the time - depends how much liquid I have to drink in the evening.. stupid small bladder!

Yes, I sleep really deeply and nothing much wakes me. I sleep without moving position and it feels like I just fell asleep when I wake up 8 - 9 hours later.

My problem these days is falling asleep in the first place. I can''t shut down some nights and I give up and get up after a few hours.

I don''t have kids yet, but I''ll answer anyway. I usually sleep pretty well, but it takes me a while to fall asleep. It''s so annoying when my brain races and I start thinking about everything under the sun. The other annoying thing is that most days I wake up to use the bathroom within 30 minutes of my alarm going off. If I notice what time it is and how much time I have until I have to get up, I find it impossible to go back to sleep. My brain turns on and I can''t get it to turn off until I need it.

I usually get up a few times a night to pee but last night I only got up once and it was heavenly to get so many uninterrupted hours of sleep.

Before and during pregnancy, I rarely woke up at night. The only time during pregnancy when I would wake up frequently was the last few weeks when her hiccuping drove me crazy.

I get up at night now at least once. When my anxiety is bad, I''ll wake up three or four times. Lately though I''ve been sleeping a lot longer without getting up. Or I''ll wake up but I won''t go check her so I''ll fall back to sleep quickly.

And I didn''t even have to CIO myself

No, never have far as I can remember. I had urination problems for years so I was up constantly, and it was worse when I was pregnant. My mind doesn''t shut down either, so I have a tendency to lay awake and think about anything and everything.

this! my youngest has been STTN for over 12 months now, but I still can''t get a full night''s sleep

I am not pregnant and do not have children (unless critters with 4 legs can count as training material).

However, I do not sleep through the night. Ever. I usually wake up every few hours. Not to pee. Just because.

I don''t have a kid, but I''ve never slept through the night. I''m gonna be screwed when I have a kid because then I''ll be up even more often

Before pregnancy and baby, YES! I'm a deep sleeper, so noises don't usually wake me up.

Now, pregnant and with a toddler, sometimes. I definitely have a harder time STTN now after having a baby. Now that my son sleeps about 12 hours a night, I am sleeping better. I think about half the time I'll STTN. Sometimes I'll wake up a few times and can't fall back asleep for 30-60 mins. It's probably mostly due to being pregnant - not getting comfortable, too hot, needing to go to the bathroom.

Haha it took me a sec to figure out what this was about! Yes I do, usually from midnight to 8am. Clearly, not preg or a mom!

I don''t, but I never have, even before I had kids. I''m a very light sleeper, so I wake up for everything. I''m also a very restless sleeper.

Nope. I''ve always been a terrible sleeper, and it hasn''t gotten any better with time. I generally wake up about every hour or so just because and then doze back off. I am not a morning person so I take advantage of my morning person husband and sleep in on the weekends

DS will be 2 in July and is usually up at least once at night, and DH gets up and gives him the bottle and puts him back to bed.

Obviously, DH functions on less sleep much better than I do! DH is also a heavy sleeper and can sleep through nearly anything whereas I am a light sleeper and so many things keep me awake. It is so annoying and I''ve tried going to bed earlier, going to bed later, cutting back on eating/drinking before bed, etc. and nothing works so I''ve resigned myself to the fact that I just don''t sleep well.

Call me crazy, but I pretty much never sleep through the night, and it''s been that way for as long as I remember. I am 22 and do not have children.

I wake up now with my dog once or twice a night to take her out to go potty. She is thirteen and can''t hold it all night. It doesn''t bother me. I take her out and get back in bed and fall asleep again right away.

When she didn''t wake me up, I actually liked waking up in the middle of the night and looking at the clock and knowing that I still had x amount of hours to sleep. On those nights where I did sleep all night without waking up, I actually felt like I didn''t sleep because it went by so fast. Waking up five minutes before your alarm clock is set to go off is murder though.

Not since I got pregnant

and I am only six weeks now! Even after my long long call days, I still have to wake up to go to the bathroom.

No! I wake up a few times in the middle of the night (to go to the bathroom, to turn over, etc.)

I don''t have kids, but I haven''t STTN for about 10 years... I wake up every few hours to go to the bathroom. I take benadryl and melatonin every night just to get semi-decent sleep!

I''m usually a very sound sleeper and only wake up when it starts to get light, then roll over and go back to sleep for awhile. However, for the past couple weeks, I''ve been waking up multiple times each night. It''s SO ANNOYING!!!! I want whatever stole my sleep to give it back!
