Do you REALLY take advice?

Tacori E-ring said:
One of the first things I have learned in school is people do not want advice. Period. I think it is better to let people share their experiences and share my personal (related) experience (ONLY in a social setting of course, not professionally). I think it is helpful to give advice on how to look at life vs. direct advice on what to do. Bottom line is I will NEVER know what is best for anyone except myself. I am not in their shoes. It is inappropriate for me to tell anyone what to do.

I only like advice if I ASK for it. I only ask when I am certain the person will share something helpful and honest.

+1!!!

Yes and no. Depends on the source and why I am asking. Sometimes I'm just gut checking. Like with my poll about the bands. I've wanted the garland band for months now, but then I saw the Dana and it threw me for a loop. So I thought I'd ask. Then when I found myself rooting for the garland in the polls, I knew what I really wanted, despite the advice of others. Even though I highly respect PS advice when it comes to jewelry. But if I'm really lost, then yes... I do usually take it. But I'm not always lost when I'm asking.

Maybe that's true for others too, and that's why it seems people don't take advice. Because they aren't always asking in order to find a solution. Sometimes they are just checking to see what you say, so they can gauge their own guts reaction to it. Your gut might be wrong, but sometimes ya just got to go with it. I'd like to think my head will overrule my gut when I hear great advice I should take. But I'm not sure that I'm that enlightened yet. But I'm still learning. So maybe I'll get there eventually.

Only from you, TGal 8)

Actually I think I take it all the time from people I respect and who are examples of living the life I would want. But only when I ask for it. Unsolicited advice makes me batty.
