Do you read when sitting on the toilet?

What do you read?

Book
Newspaper
Magazine
Mail
Junk mail
Catalogs
iPad, kindle, smartphone, laptop or other e-device?

I'm an every-timer.
I read science books, magazines, catalogs, junk mail.

For sanitation reasons I'm careful to not touch reading materials after I've touched myself down there.
If I visit someone's house I won't touch any of their reading material.
It may not be clean. :knockout:

Nope, never have. I have a very healthy colon/rectum/anus and plan to keep it that way. Sitting on a toilet for any length of time past what it takes to move one's bowels can be detrimental to one's undercarriage. If you're sitting on the toilet (which isn't really a natural function anyway) long enough to read a book/paper/magazine, something isn't working correctly. Time to address diet and the amount of time spent doing physical things each day. :read:

And you Kenny had the nerve to comment on my leash post?

I read while my body does its business.
I have a healthy system too and it happens quickly.
When my body is done I stop reading.

Are you a speed reader? :naughty:

If I'm there 45 seconds I read whatever I read in 45 seconds.
I've never 'read' a novel on the throne.
Lots of reading material is just bite-sized light-reading stuff.

Perhaps I like to take my mind of what I'm doing.

I'm surprised it's only 40%, so far with 10 votes.

When visiting homes I usually see magazines in bathrooms.
And lots of people these days can't look away from their smartphones for one second.

Nope, I'm not on there long enough. Thank GOD. :P

I think your poll is a little bit unclear. The poll asks to vote on a scale from 1-10 how OFTEN you read while eliminating, but your first post on the thread lists what TYPES of reading material. I didn't vote because I am having a hard time quantifying from memory how many times I read anything while I'm in the bathroom. But maybe I'm just overthinking it.

I do think this might be one of those uncomfortable TMI threads (not for me, stuff like this doesn't make me blush!) for some, and maybe that's another reason you aren't getting a lot of responses/votes.

You mentioned people not being able to tear themselves away from their smartphones for long. I must admit that sometimes, first thing in the morning, I take my phone into the bathroom with me and quickly catch up on the weather and top headlines from ATW and the States on one app on my phone. I leave the phone on my vanity stool while I read, then wash my hands before picking it back up.

I can't remember the last time I saw a magazine rack or stack of reading material in someone's bathroom! Do you remember that episode of Seinfeld when George was forced to buy a book because he took it into the restroom in the bookstore? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NygOFsExGMU

I take back my last statement. I was at my parents' last weekend and noticed stacks of kid's books in one of their bathrooms. When my niece spends the night with them, my mom reads to her while she's in the bathtub. :read:

Edited for clarity.

I had not seen that.
Hilarious. Thanks.

If Seinfeld put bathroom reading in a show it must be one of those dicey taboo topics.
I'm proud to be as 'cutting edge'. ;) as Seinfeld.

My pleasure! He and Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm and co-creator of Seinfeld--you would LOVE CYE) did great things with the "show about nothing." On one hand, that show always infuriated me because George could be such a whiny moron, but on the other hand, the topics they covered were done in comedically brilliant ways. Bathroom books and all!

I have to go on record condemming George taking a for-sale book into the men's room then trying to return it to the shelf. :nono:

EWW! indeed!
You just don't know whether the book came in contact with anything. :knockout:

But, you can read in your own bathroom without contaminating your reading material, or lingering longer than the job takes.
I'm not trying to recruit anyone, and I understand the EWW factor, but it is possible to do it EWW-lessly.

True. At the risk of sounding like a broken record and/or beating a dead horse, I feel I should add some context to why I have the attitude I have about taking too much time on the "throne." My dad was diagnosed with colorectal cancer 11 years ago, his dad died of the same cancer, and it's been a tough road for all of us involved. I get a bit soapbox-y about colon health and I probably should've prefaced my comments with this sentiment instead of just posting and probably coming across as a know-it-all, especially since I do not, in fact, know it all.

But yeah, I do stand by my initial assertion that if you have to sit and read for longer than necessary, you might want to get in for a checkup to make sure all your internal plumbing is functioning properly. (Not directed at you, Kenny, just a general PSA.) :wavey:

*steps off soapbox*

edited to remove extraneous wavey emoticon.

Thanks M64. :twirl:

Not really. I don't like taking electronics in (even my phone) because i've had some close calls with dropping them into water. And I dont have much else that I'd take in.

Pretty much every time. Unless I am plucking my eyebrows or something. E-books for me. If there are no books around I'll read anything: sports magazine, catalog. You name it. Best way to get me to read something I normally wouldn't is to keep my phone away from me (Nook App) and put it in the bathroom. Oh and in case anyone is wondering. I have disinfecting wipes on hand that I rub my phone down with when I am done. Every time.

No. I am more of a read in a comfy chair or propped up in bed type person........
