every so often or many smaller pieces? Just curious...

This is assuming that you have finite resources and can't have everything you want....if you have infinite resources and can have every piece of jewelry you want, do you want to adopt me???? =)

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

No, I prefer one of everything...one pendant, one set of earrings, one RHR (OK, maybe more). I dont work or socialize that much
so I dont need lots of pendants, earrings or RHRs. If I did have lots, I'd never get to wear them all.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

Considering I'll never have a big jewelry budget, I'd prefer to get one thing then move on to something else because if I just upgrade, I'll never have more than one piece of jewelry. As long as I get pieces I love, I don't think I'll want to upgrade anyway.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

I've tried collecting multiple things - pendants, RHR, etc. But at the end of the day I find I'm pretty much a one ring and MAYBE one pendant kind of person. I can't even find myself wanting a pair of earrings - instead I think of the funds I'd spend and ponder a larger diamond, or a reset, etc. I'm totally fickle when it comes to my ring (I change and upgrade a lot, sometimes downgrading, but always changing), but find myself constantly focused on just that one finger and not very interested in acquiring other pieces.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

I think I would rather have one knockout piece. I do have a lot of colored stone rings, but in the end, I think one "perfect" piece would make me happier!

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

I refer to have several smaller pieces. That way, I have variety and I can have some pieces that are more appropriate for everyday and a few that are for special occasions. Since I am a coloured stones girl, I would have a terrible time commiting to just one stone type and colour, as well.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

Well, I think I'm the kind who'd prefer variety, but in reality, I'm the kind who prefers one perfect piece ... at least for long stretches of time. I wore one set of rings for 7 years straight, I haven't taken my pendant off since I got it: gods help me if I ever manage to get the 2 ctw studs I want, because I have a large earring collection which will fall by the wayside! That said, I haven't upgraded anything yet, and I'm not entirely sure if I ever will (although I do have plans for an ever-enlarging RHR), just because the loss you take each time you upgrade sort of drives me nuts. A conundrum.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

I have several things that I have upgraded over the years. However, having said that, I have one ering/wedding band, one RHR, one set of earrings and one pendant. The only thing I have two of is two diamond bracelets. I consider these my signature pieces - I don't have multiples of everything nor would I change them around everyday. I don't want a lot of jewelry that I will never wear so I stick to these pieces everyday.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

I'm in the camp who prefers to have a few signature pieces. Honestly, had my er/wr not been lost/stolen, I never would have considered an upgrade or setting change. I loved what I had (and had for almost 10 years). I would really love a knockout er/wr, but that's about it. I have diamond studs, but I don't wear them much b/c my earring holes are uneven (my Mom took me to the pediatrician to have them pierced, he didn't do it that often and he missed...grrr), so when I wear studs, it looks kind of odd. Maybe I should have them turned into something else or used towards a bigger e-ring??

I really love hearing people's choices and why they feel the way they do...thanks for sharing!

I prefer just a few "important" pieces, but saving up for them can be trying and sometimes I do give in to instant gratification...

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

I have too many "fun" pieces collected over the years which I now regret buying and don't wear. I should have followed my mum's advice of buying only "important" pieces which is what I'm trying to do these days.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

I only like very expensive (not in absolute $ amount, but relative to what most similar items cost- except they're not really similar which is the point) things.

I'd rather have only these things, without what to me would be compromises. Quality over quantity I guess you might say. I can't help it. That's the way I feel.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

Ideally, I would like to have 1 perfect wedding set (when the time comes), and a few other pieces. I like to switch it up with stacking bands on my right hand so I would like to have a few inter-changable, high quality bands for that purpose as well. I also would like to have a pair of BGD bezel studs (like Phoenix) and a Barbara pendant. Other than that, I really don't want anything. I'd rather have a few very high quality pieces than a whole collection of mediocre jewelry. It's just SO HARD to save up for expensive jewelry--it feels like forever in between projects.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

I prefer variety. Maybe it would be different if I only wore diamonds, but I could never limit myself to just one set of colored stones.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

I have my "big" ring, but still have several smaller rings, I try to keep the expensive rings few and far between but will upgrade and trade the stones around so it keeps things fresh. I had a 1.10 ct stone that was in a nice ering setting, and found a 1.02 carat a few weeks ago... since I had not worn the ring in a while I had them put into earrings! when I tire of the studs I will likely switch them around again... lol

I do like to keep things changing, so for monetary reasons the rhr's and settings are on the less expensive side. I do think I will be keeping my big ring for the rest of my life and have no plans to change it ( for now!) :naughty:

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

I go for the collection. Considering how insane prices jump from carat to carat I would rather have several "smaller" pieces than one giant ring.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

I prefer one knockout piece over several other pieces of jewelry.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

I prefer to put all my funds to one piece. When it is perfect, then I might move on to other things, but that will take a while.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

Several smaller pieces. My collection is small compared to some people on this site, but I like having a few different things to switch out.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

I'm married 25 yrs. After our 2 children, dh took me to the jewelry store to pick something so I went with a lovely sapphire/diamond ring. I could have had an upgrade then, but I figured what we had to spend wouldn't really make the center much bigger. He bought me a couple of things over the years, nothing as $$$ as the sapphire/diamond ring. I happened to get diamond studs at about 15 yrs because his mom passed and his dad gave me the diamonds from her ring. (Without that gift, I might have gotten some smaller ones later). This year we went for the Big Kahuna. Big center stone, as part of a 5 stone cushion ring show-me-the-ring/my-leon-mege-5-stone-cushion-t147609.html. No regrets at all! Love my beautiful ring that I wear everyday! So I would vote to go for the biggie, the beautiful, the knockout first.

Re: Do you prefer 1 "knockout" piece of jewelry that you upg

I'm a lots of pieces girl. My engagement ring is set. I'm not changing it or anything about it. I love my BGD pendant and there is nothing I'd change about it. My earrings are lovely. I now want a POWER diamond band (large and in charge, to switch out wight my wedding set). And then a pear solitaire bezel pendant. And then studs (upgradable) and finally a REALLY high carat weight diamond bracelet. And pear drop jackets for my studs.

That's all. :twirl:
