I still buy my kids gift even though they are old. We have always bought from lists. Since they have been little we have had them make lists of what they would like with their favorite thing as #1 and a list of a lot of little things that we can choose or their siblings can choose. That way everyone gets what they most would like. We have always had a dollar limit. I usually went over it as I would buy them little things to add to their stockings or whatever.

This was the first Christmas that I gave everyone cash and didn't go over it a single penny. I am not sure they liked it that much although they all bought what they wanted.

I sent my grandkids gifts and my daughter and son a check. Heard back about the grandkids gifts but not a peep about the cash. Daughter has been a little miffed at me lately so that may account for it.
