While all of us here obviously love jewelry, do you know anyone **personally** who loves it as much as you do?

I don't. I seriously don't. That's why I'm here....a lot.

LOL, no. However, my work friends know I love jewelry (more than normal people), so they try to take special note and ask if this piece is new or whatever. I have sold a couple of my unworn pieces to co-workers for a song, and one gal told my friend that they must be fake because 1 ctw diamond earrings couldn’t possibly be $450. So, we went over to the jeweler in the skyway and they confirmed they were real. (I got them at a pawn shop for like $250, so I still made money and she got a pretty good deal). So now people actually will ask me recommendations re possible purchases they might make (and still do whatever they want, e.g., zales…)

No sadly not.

It's good to know I am not alone in my obsessions!

If anyone asks me why I have so much jewelry I just tell them that it's probably the most space saving hobby anyone can have....apart from stamp collecting. If you collect something like cars or motorcycles, you need a lot of space....am I right???

Seriously, I have taken a turn to vintage and antique jewelry in recent years and love researching the history of a piece. It's amazing at what ends up in pawn shops, which is where most of my purchases are made. A pawn shop employee told me one time I have a great "eye"....I thanked them for the compliment.

My mom, I inherited the love of sparklies from her and she got it from her dad, not my grandma'. It's got nothing to do with environment, it's something one likes and seeks.

One of my friends likes jewelry, and we can have discussions, as long as I don't get too in-depth and cause her eyes to glaze over.

My sister is into all kinds of jewelry, and we can talk for hours about it. She loves vintage Mexican Taxco, and collects pieces from some of the important makers, which are very pricey.
But I know she doesn't think about jewelry 24/7 like me.

No. My family and friends think sapphires are blue and garnets are red. They give me a bemused smile when I mention tsavorites. They think I'm a bit crazy - and they might be right.

The only people I know who are as interested in jewellery as I am are PSers. My other friends wouldn’t have a clue.

No

HI:

For sure. All my sisters and Mother. One BIL. Four dear friends (two are former PS'ers) and one who is not.

cheers--Sharon

No…I tried to talk to my DIL about jewelry but she wasn’t interested in the beginning. Ever since I upgraded to Winter..my 3.01 ACA..she‘s been interested. She started grabbing it and pretending to run off with it. Last week she upgraded her diamond to a 2.72 from 1.50 ctw. I’m rubbing off on her..

Now you can run off with hers!!!!

Nope, especially since I'm a guy and an introvert.

My gran LOVED jewellery, I remember her wearing ALL her rings at the same time on special occasions. She could barely bend her fingers I was mesmerized.
She was very loving and used to let me play in her jewel box. Such a thrill.
My great grandmas heart locket came to me on my 21st even though I wasn’t the oldest female grandchild. She gifted it to me because she knew I would treasure it forever.
My Mum is likewise keen on jewellery but my collection surpassed hers decades ago. Mum has already distributed some pieces onto my sister and myself. Mostly my sister because “she doesn’t have much”. Always a cause of friction.
But no, none of my friends nor work colleagues over the years had any real love of jewellery. I used to plan my jewellery wardrobe along with clothes the night before.
My watch collection attracted a lot of attention. On one occasion I took 5 manual wind watches in for a service and after collection from the watchmaker I wore all 5 at once. They were astonished that I had “5” watches.
5 ! Ha, at my zenith I had 72 watches. I have downsized.
A bit.

Yes, one…. Great friends from when we were 15 working casually at a bakery. Still friends 32 years later. She is the only person I know in “real life” who gets me (& who enables me!! & likewise!) Love her to bits x

My Mother loved jewellery. She only had a few well chosen pieces but they were beautiful. Two gold & diamond bracelets, one pearl bangle, a 3 row pearl necklace & 3 diamond rings, one of which was passed down to me. Sadly I don't know anyone in real life that shares my passion.

My mom and my dad. Both love jewelry.

They are both artists and appreciate beauty in all things.
So I guess genetically I developed my love and appreciation of jewelry from them without even realizing it.

I was never interested in jewelry when I was younger and in fact didn't get my ears pierced til I was 16. And then stopped wearing earrings so the holes closed up.

Blame my parents. And Greg too because until he came into the picture my love of jewelry was dormant but he started showering me with pretty bling and the rest is history. Or herstory. :)

Old photo but here are the culprits responsible.

And the ring that IMO started it all.
My dad's idea to buy this ring for my mom. It was always my dad's idea to get her jewelry and he had to convince her each time because my mom is way more frugal than my dad.

So the short answer is yes, both of my parents appreciate beautiful jewelry. As much as I do I would say. But they aren't as vocal about it and never joined a jewelry forum. But then again they can barely text let alone use a computer lol.

A bit.

I had a great aunt I never knew who ran a "house" in the red light district of New Orleans. (I was about a hundred years behind her.) A cousin told me one time she went to visit her at the house and about all the beautiful jewelry she had...especially the sapphires. Maybe I get my passion for jewelry from her. After she had to close her house she fell on hard times but she did leave my cousin's father a sapphire ring and he gave it to her. (My birthstone is also sapphire.)

Love love LOVE this!!!!! All of it!!!

Not really. Most of my friends consider their Apple watches jewelry. And I dare not mention my interest to my family, because they have O P I N I O N S. :roll2:

My mother loved jewelry but we were very poor coming up in life. Her one thing she wanted was a diamond cluster ring and even though she's been gone for so long, if I had to do it over, I'd sure buy one for her. Having said that, she always told my sister and me....."Get the good stuff!" I pick out 99.9% of my jewelry. My sister's husband buys hers.....he needs help with his choices, but doesn't ask for it.

I look to acquire well-made jewelry that is beautiful. I know someone who is so proud of her huge diamond three-stone ring but doesn't realize a smaller ring she has is so much prettier than the big one. I bet the diamonds total 6 or more carats between the three of them....and there is not light coming from them, no sparkle...not even a little. I louped it one time, handed it back and said, "Pretty." I was sad for those diamonds. I don't know if a recut would have helped or what but I'd have surely tried it. Better to have smaller beautiful diamonds that huge ones that are not what anyone who knows diamonds would want them to be.

No, my family and friends think I am nuts, lol

We all know you're not! LOL!! People think I'm nuts when I divulge my safe place for my jewelry case....my 1955 solid cast iron oven in my Chambers stove, Heck, even the brochure says to keep your "valuables" in the oven because if there's a fire, it won't burn up! My husband asked me one time why I had some jewelry in a case in my purse. My answer: "Would you leave your babies at home?" I rest my case.
