at times?

That is, is there someone in your life who just pushes your proverbial buttons?
Someone with whom your reaction might at times be unreasonable or different than your reaction would be with others just because of who they are or your history with them?

Yes, my husband, LOL. He can really push my buttons.. But I love him more than life and he knows it so I normally get away with a bit of temperamental behaviour... :halo:  :halo:

Ha, yes, well I get that Scandinavian. For me as you already know it is my mother but now that you mention it if my dh says a trigger phrase it gets me crazy. So in general he doesn't push my buttons but dare he say those 4 little words that make me so angry I will go crazy on his you know what.

Just in case you are interested in that trigger phrase it's "You are behaving irrationally" and nothing makes me behave more irrationally than when he says those 4 words. Suffice it to say he rarely uses that phrase anymore because he knows that unleashes the crazy in me.

My Son. He pushes my buttons all of the time. He's very argumentative and can never have a conversation with me, argument free.

My mum, because she nags all the time, especially about my weight.

We live in different continents, and I visit her once every 2 years for about a week.

No, I'm the same with everyone.

I was less temperate when I was younger but life knocked that out of me. Now I'm just grateful for any friends and relatives I have, and am nice to them, since many of them died. Death has made me look at the long game and see that most people are very worthwhile. The sheer sadness when someone dies, taking all their annoying quirks with them, makes you value those that are still here.

My parents used to push my buttons---they INSTALLED them

My DH can get me to 10 on the dial with a small effort, he knows me pretty well.

Re: Do you have a person with whom you might behave unreason

My little sister. She is 5 years younger & we have always had a love / hate relationship. She was very pampered by my parents, being the youngest of 4, which wound me up no end. Consequently she is very selfish & expects things to always be in her favour. I have only ever once slapped her face, but it was absolutely necessary. It was a few years ago, she was drunk & crying about the death of our lovely father. She spluttered out, in front of our mother, "None of you know what I'm going through! He was MY dad and that's all that I care about!" :angryfire:

Wow. I am so impressed that you came to realize this, Dancing Fire. I had been about to say that you were the one person with whom I might behave unreasonably, but now that you have come to acknowledge that liberals are always right, there is no one left on my list! Thank you!!!

My SO's a**hat friends who have ignored me to my face, were wildly judgmental from day one, and organized secret meetings to "take me down" or something along those brilliant, enlightened lines

Doctors, now I know that is a strange answer but I have a hard time dealing with them and although I really try to be a good patient inevitably by the time I leave the office I usually feel worse off then when I walked in.

My sister in law.

There's a thread somewhere deep in my archives that goes into why. But gosh, I'll never be comfortable around her and I'll never really like her.

I'm always short, awkward and rude to her. I can't stop it lol.

Myself.

I demand more of myself than what is reasonable.

I'm trying to get better and consider myself a 'recovering perfectionist'. :D

My 28 year old daughter. I'm not " politically correct" enough. I'm trying, I'm old and the world changes too fast. We absolutely can not discuss Bruce/Caitlin Jenner.

Re: Do you have a person with whom you might behave unreason

Ugh hate to bump this thread up but I am so upset right now with my mother. Why does she act like this? She is so unreasonable and just like that can change my decent or even happy mood to a bad one. Not sure what to do as tonight is the second night of Passover and the only evening of the holiday we are supposed to spend with them. I just don't want to go tonight and am tired of telling myself my parents are older and I don't know how much time I have left with them. My mom is ridiculously difficult at times and of course I am always the bad guy. No matter what. Grrrrrr. :nono:

So no I am not being unreasonable with her it is she who is being quite unreasonable with me! And the question is do I once again suck it up and be miserable or just not attend tonight and take the consequences whatever they may be. I know my whole family will be very upset with me if I don't attend but this is not good for my health either way. Attend or don't attend I will suffer emotional and perhaps physical consequences. ;(

Sorry for venting here but somehow writing it down and actually sharing it helps. Still unsure as to what to do tonight but I am really tired of the same old same old. Why can't we just have a peaceful loving mother daughter relationship like so many other people? I know she loves me and I love her but as she gets older she becomes more and more unreasonable and difficult. And I love when she throws things up to me about what happened over 3 decades ago LOL. OK you were a great mother who did so much for us I know that but that was over 30 years ago. Sigh.

Would it be possible for you to call her and tell her how you feel and get it sorte before tonight? Hugs!!

Re: Do you have a person with whom you might behave unreason

Thanks Scandinavian. I will do just that but I am so tired of this. She is quite unreasonable and I don't want to suffer this behavior anymore but she is my mom and so I will see if we can fix it now. If not I am not going tonight. She starts crying and makes me feel as if I am the bad one here. Makes me just go :wall: :nono:  .

Thank you for your always loving and encouraging support Scandinavian. (((HUGS))).

ETA: And just like that it is resolved. Makes me wonder why we have to go through all that angst and agita yanno? ::)

Yep, me too! Although mine's pretty adept at calling me out, which I appreciate.

So happy you were able to resolve the conflict with your mom Missy. I wonder if part of the problem truly is her age. My mom has gotten more stubborn then I ever would have thought possible as she has aged. I also try to keep the peace as I know the day will come when she won't be here. When I look at it this way it makes it easier to just ignore the hurtful comments.

My mom....

DH doesn't do this anymore, but once upon a time, a trigger phrase that caused me to go all exorcist on him is, "you're acting like your mother."
