Do you have a car in mind after your current one dies?

My son has a rental this week from Hertz, an Infinity, G35. (He lucked out when they did not have what he reserved.)
He sent me a photo of the insturments.
It has a screen that shows you what is behind you when you back up.
And, like heated seats, it has air conditioned seats.
I could get used to those features!

how bout a lexus IS 300? those are smaller and definitely luxurious

I know what you mean.. the sequoia I want is going to be a gas guzzler.. unless they come out with a hyrbrid ...I'm hoping they come out with something like that for when I'm ready
Probably a little too luxurious for me!! Haha. A little too much money for me; I don't think I'm ready to spend more than $30k on a car (and don't know if I'll ever be ready to spend that much). Plus they don't even get 30mpg!

And let me just vent about how I totally don't get the RWD available in the luxury cars. Everyone I know gets the AWD, but then I take issue because I'm a mpg whore and can't handle the loss in mpg you get with AWD. Why can't they just make them with FWD?? That's one of the big things that holds me back from getting any of the true luxury brands (besides the price tag).

Mine is 6+ years old and still going strong. More importantly, it still makes me smile to slip behind the wheel. I hope to drive it for at least four more years and who knows what I''ll be ready for then, but if I were to get another car right now, I''d get another MINI Cooper!

I posted in the ''Brand Loyalty'' thread that I''m thinking of a Mini Cooper for my next purchase, but the lack of reliability scares me a lot.

elrohwen -- I did have a few minor issues -- a software reflash and some fit-and-finish issues -- that were resolved within the first year. MINI has a three year full repair and maintenance warranty so the shakeout adjustments didn''t cost me anything. It also came with three years of roadside assistance. I''ve never come anywhere close to needing that!
Nice to hear from a mini owner! I have at least 3 friends who own them and love them, which makes me feel better. It''s good to know that they have a good warranty for the first few years and that all of the issues you had were within the first year. Still, it''s quite a change from a Honda.

Hmmmm - current car is 19 year old Suzuki Swift but she's still going strong (only had 50,000 KM on it when I bought it off the original owner) I've never owned a new car in my LIFE and probably never will (let someone else pay the mark-up. I've never cared about owning new cars at ALL). I don't know what I'd do if my car died...... I'm big into the enviroment and I went without a car for fifteen years when I lived downtown (Vancouver) so if it died I'd probably just do without one again. I take transit to work so I mostly just drive it to do errands on weekends. IF I won the lottery or something and I HAD to buy a new car? I think I'd buy a little Yaris or a Ford Fiesta or something like that. They're almost as good on gas as the hybrids......

Now if the thread was what kind of SCOOTER or MOTORCYCLE do you want that's a different question! I DESPERATELY want an Aprilia Custom 150 but they don't sell them in Canada! Boooooooooo!

I posted in the 'Brand Loyalty' thread that I'm thinking of a Mini Cooper for my next purchase, but the lack of reliability scares me a lot. Currently I have a 9 year old Civic that I love with 115,000 miles on it. I've driven all of my past cars until they died (well, they were 10 years old when I got them ... so I only had them a few years) and I plan to do the same with this one. When it's 11 or so I'll start looking at new cars, but I'll hold off until it really dies or the repairs far out weigh the value of the car. Right now it's only worth $4500, so a bunch of body work would put it over the edge (unless insurance was willing to cover it). I hope it hangs on to at least 200k miles!

I do kind of want something a bit nicer for my next car, because it will be the first one I purchase myself that's new. I wish they made Civics with more luxury options, because I'd be willing to pay for the extras. Accords are awesome, but a bit too big for me as I loooove driving small cars. I wanted the Mini because they get great gas mileage, are small, handle really well, and have some luxury features but many things about them make me nervous. I hope Honda updates their Civic body style and makes them a little more high class and I'd snatch one up in a second. It bothers me that to buy a 'nice' car, you also have to get one with terrible gas mileage and a huge engine. I want a nice interior and exterior on a car that gets 35-40mpg

But Civics are so huge now! They used to be beginner class but not anymore; the Fit took over that position.

ETA Mini is my dream car too! I go to their website to customize my car, and drool. I don't like the new style though

After a 2002 Landrover Freelander from HELL, I''m digging my 2005 Rav 4 (had 3 yrs now)... but if money was no option next go round I''d upgrade to a Lexus! My DH is thinking of trading his Miata (summer car) and non-4WD Jeep (winter car) in for a *single* car that doesn''t make me nervous when he drives it! LOL. That Miata is tiny! It has to have high gas mileage & AWD/4WD ... pre-owned Subaru Foresters have come up as an option. Haven''t gotten too far w/it yet.
After a couple of weekend of shopping there''s been some more progress on this front ... anyone have experience with Priuses? Priii?

I have a Toyota Prius right now and I wouldn''t even consider getting anything other than another Prius when this one dies
Heyya Namaste ... is yours a Series 2? O5 & up? We''re getting a bit serious about one & I''m looking for reassurance. It''ll be DH''s car so its his pick ... but I''m more sweet on the Matrix because of its AWD (yet decent gas mileage for a non-hybrid). Thoughts??

My next car will be a ford focus cabriolet.. my current car needs to last about 6 years though so I can afford it

I'm not Namaste, but I wanted to say that it's a great car! It has so much room and cargo space, and I love that it's a hatchback! FI has a 04 and I would definitely get a 05 or newer, because the 04 map graphics is crap. I don't like the latest design renovation but that's just a personal taste.

However, if you are considering a Prius just for the gas millage, I would rethink getting a hybrid at all. The savings in gas millage will NOT make up for the price difference of the cars. I don't know much about the Matrix but I heard that it's a good car, and if the latest Matrix had come out when I was in the market of car purchase I would have seriously considered it.

I''m kind of in the same position as you. I would love love love to have a Prius, but I''m just not sure if it''s worth it. While I would love to get anywhere near the estimated mpg, I don''t know if I can handle the weird problems that may come up with owning a hybrid.
I''ve been reading up on hybrids and the Prius on Edmunds and Priuschat and trying to figure out if it''s the right car for us. I''m leaning towards no, but if I could find an 04 or newer with reasonable mileage at the right price, I will definitely consider getting one.

I drive a 5speed 2006 VW Jetta right now and it''s my 3rd Jetta. I LOVE my VW''s. Next car (which will be April) will either be an Audi A4 Cabriolet 2.0T 6speed, a VW EOS 2.0T 6speed, a VW GTI 2.0T 6speed, or a late 60''s (67-69) step side Chevy pickup - all stock, no rust. The latter is a dream, but someday...

I''m a total car junky.

We''re hoping to drive our car to the ground (honda odyssey). We hope by the time it is ready to be replaced there will be a good alternative fuel or super low fuel economy station wagon/van for a family available.
