what is the highest legal speed limit on your freeways?

The only place I''ve lived with carpool lanes was Houston. I live near Austin now and they don''t have them. The average speed limit here is 65 or 70.

Nope, and our high speed limit is 65, although a lot of highways are also 55.

we have car pool lanes
speed limit 65

You thinking of moving DF??

We have carpool lanes (or HOV lanes) on I-95 that is free. They just put in new lanes that will take you from Miami directly into Broward to clear up the roads a little. The first weekend it was implemented there were 9 accidents from people not knowing what to do. Gotta love Miami.

The speed limit I think is 70 on the turnpike and I think 55 everywhere else.

Yes on our two major freeways, and one has a system that allows you to pay to use the carpool lane as a single passanger. Our speed limit is 65 on most freeways.

We have HOV lanes ( High Occupancy Vehicle)
Speed limit is 100km/h (65 mph? I think...)

No carpool lanes and the highway speed limit is 65, although our county is trying to get to lower it to 55. Hopefully that doesn''t go through.

I live in the DC area - some of our highways are HOV only at rush hour. The max spped limit is 65, though many are only 55.

We have HOV lanes all along both major freeways I travel on (1-5 and I-405). The speed limit varies depending on which cities the freeway is located nearby. Some parts it''s 60 and others 70.

I dont think we have HOV lanes... Ive never noticed them, so Im saying NO we dont... As far as our speed limits.. the cops are @$$holes...so it changes about every 3 miles to try to catch people speeding... seriously it changes all the time... highest would be 70 on the turnpike...everywhere else ranges from 35-55

Sorry to threadjack, but I''m curious about HOV lanes...I might be moving to the Bethesda area, and I know there are HOV lanes around the DC area, but every time I''ve driven there, even if there is traffic, the traffic in the regular lanes moves at the pace of the speed limit or even faster. Then people go in the HOV lanes and literally FLY! Don''t these people get pulled over?

Sabine, I'll be the first to admit it, i fly while in the HOV lane... it's just to easy! And i can honestly say i've never seen anyone pulled over on the HOV lanes either. Of the friends that have been pulled over while using the HOV it was because they weren't 2+ people in the car, never for speeding.
Maybe Canadian Cops are just nicer!

I know in Houston the HOV lanes used to be enclosed in those concrete walls and there were only 1 or 2 ways in and out. If you''re flying through there, there is no way for the cop to get into the lane to catch you! It looks like the HOV lanes there are now open so you can move in and out of them more easily.

Oddly enough, no.

Well, I know we have a HOV lane on part of the 95, not sure about I-15 since I never drive on it. I use the HOV lane sometimes not sure if it''s a different speed but the hwy speed is 65 unless there is construction work so I go 65-70 unless otherwise posted. I personally will not go faster than 65-70MPH because cops check that lane like hawks here. I like reading the stories about people who put dummies in the front seat so they can use the HOV lanes.

Yup, we have carpool lanes. When there isn''t traffic...you can go fast in LA, the major freeways are 65 and 70.

LOL to people putting dummies in the front seat... that is the funniest thing I have EVER heard... hahaha.. and im sure some people do... reminds me of Lars and the Real girl...hahahah

We have HOV lanes on two of the major highways in my city, but they are mostly the concrete-enclosed ones. You can also use them as a single driver if you have a toll transponder to pay the $.50-$3.25 toll. The closer to rush hour, the higher the toll.

Speed limit is 55-65 around the city and in the mountains, but 75 through more rural areas (begins about 15 minutes out of the city). I love the 75 speed limits! They are also working on changing all 55 speed limits to 65 around the city. Apparently, traffic studies done here have shown that it actually results in LESS accidents, which surprised me.

I would be so embarassed if I was ticketed for that, lol. I went digging & found some stuff on snopes http://www.snopes.com/autos/law/carpool.asp pretty funny.

Yes. 70 mph

London - bus and bike lanes, but no car pool lanes. Speed limit depends on the type of road, but dual carriage way is 70 mph unless otherwise posted.

Eastern Iowa/Western Illinois - no carpool lanes. We have two major interstates surrounding our city (4-6 lanes), which do get a little crazy in the morning and evening commute, but I think most people are like me - I drive mostly through the city and get on the interstate only so I can cross the river into IL, so I spend a total of 5 mins actually on the interstate, 10 if I''m stuck in traffic. A carpool lane would be very expensive to implement (since it''s only 4 lanes) and while I''m definitely for reducing emissions, I don''t think it would really cut down much because while we''re a larger area, there''s less than half a million people here.

Our city is considering bike lanes right now (love it!) but there''s a lot of opposition because of how much it will cost. We have great bike paths, but they cut through the northern part of the city and don''t really connect with the riverfront, and since the roads are narrow, it''s a little perilous to try to bike to work if you need to get downtown.

Speed limit on the interstate is 70 on the Iowa side and 65 in Illinois, but the stretch over the river is 55/60, so on the IA side, you really don''t get the 70 limit until well on the outskirts. I''m so used to the IL 65 limit though that I''ve been driving 70 (yanno, 5 miles over) my whole driving life and feel like going 75 is totally speeding!
