I just wonder, do you guys bargain when you get your diamond? How many % off you get?

Most vendors here are already lower than stores and give a PS discount so I feel I am already getting a good deal.

I think all or most of the companies give Pricescope discount but never heard of bargaining

Because of the low prices of most PS vendors I would be surprized if they negoitated anything lower then a wire discount or PS discount. However it never hurts to ask politely but don't expect a whole % off. If you buy the setting from them they might have more wiggle room on the setting for a discount.

My best advise is to shop around the vendors and see who offers the best deal for what you are looking for.

I prefer to buy from places where the price is already as low as it can go without cutting into their operating expenses... if you can negotiate a large percentage off, imo that just means their stuff is overpriced. I don't mind a teeny weeny bit overpriced, but when you get to being able to knock 10% off, imo that's too much.

If you are talking about virtual stones that several vendors list the same stone but maybe a different price for, then you can ask if they will pricematch to the lowest-priced vendor.

Depends on the place. I spoken FCD and CS dealers that I have politely asked if there was "wiggle room and they have come down. But not from PS vendors that already offer a PS or wire discount.

I just purchased a couple of .72 diamonds for studs, I found the lowest price through everyones virtual inventory, called the site I wanted to buy from and they matched the lowest price, and they also matched settings price. Never hurts to ask..

I always bargain when looking at antique stones. I usually ask for between 10%-15% off and most jewelers I have asked have agreed. I also purchased a new diamond from IDJ and he was able to beat the BN price. I would also ask for the "best" price if I went to an independently owned store, not part of a chain.

I wouldn't bargain if the stone was part of the vendor's inventory and/or if it was a branded-cut stone. If I found a diamond listed on virtual inventory and was listed by more than one vendor and the vendor I prefered to work with had it listed for a bit more, I would talk to the vendor about seeing it listed for less by another vendor. This would be a comfort level thing for me... Say, I've had great experiences with a specific vendor, I'd want to work with them, if possible.

I agree with MC. If I wanted to work with a specific vendor and they could access the same stone for me that was listed with another vendor for $xxx, then I would definitely ask if they would consider price matching. However I think that it's also important to take a vendors add-ons into consideration as well, for example one may have a better upgrade, buyback etc that may making spending a slight premium worth it.

I try. Whether it works is another story. ;)

Sometimes it is how you define a 'bargain'. It can be in terms of cash saving, but there's also a favorable upgrade policy, extended return period, the vendor calling in more stones for comparison, videos/photos/stats, honest opinion etc... With such big emotional and financial investment, there is often more value in everything else but the cash discount :$$):

yes.....you just negotiate he might have wiggle room on the setting or maybe on the stone but they all have a little wiggle. If you pay cash maybe they will eliminate the tax. I had my studs sent out of state to save the $800 taxes. It depends. I qualify that I don't have any experience with the E vendors.

Being trade I dunno if I should answer, but I do buy stuff too and did long before I was in the trade.
I politely ask and don't get insulted if they say no.
It doesn't hurt anything to be nice about it and ask in a nice way.

I dislike having to bargain. As another PSer wrote I prefer to go where I know the prices are the prices and they are not grossly inflated because it is expected you will bargain. There is one jewelry shop I frequent where the prices are very fair and repeat customers get 10% off the marked price. That is the final price. No negotiation. I prefer it that way. It's a fair price and if I love something I know I am not getting cheated.

However, there are other places where if I really love a piece of jewelry (or whatever it is I am looking for) I and I feel the price is more than it is worth (IMO) I will politely ask what is the best price or is there any wiggle room on the price. Though that is not my preference I will do it if I feel the price is too inflated and I want it. Depending on the answer I may get it but if I am not happy with the final price I will move on. As much as I dislike to negotiate on price I am not foolish so I will negotiate if I feel it is warranted. As others have said the worse that can happen is that they say no and then I move on. If I am asking then you know I am not going to buy it at the initial price because I wouldn't bargain if I felt the original price was fair.

Some people get such a rush out of a good price that the hassle of bargaining completely worth it to them. In general, I feel extremely uncomfortable about having to bargain. The process itself is also very time consuming. It's only worth it for me if it's a prominent purchase, like my cars, house, and E-ring. At local jewelry stores, I could get the price down by 30% of asking price. Online, since the prices are so close to wholesale, I've only been able to get it reduced by 8% at most. ::)

8%?? Wow thats a lot. How did u do that? Mind to share?

You know what though B&M (maybe not the diamond) are so over priced that it is worth a shot to bring the price to where it should be. If you do your research. Not that I am proud that I bargained for my earrings but the sticker price was $14,000 for 2.41 EGL international certified stones. i knew that they were truly work between $9,000 and $10,000 (as EGl is usually 2-4 grades lower) so I bargained until I felt I wasnot over paying too much .....

I love to bargain-
But of course respectfully.
I grew up bargaining as a business skill- if I am unable to do so I feel cheated in a way. BUT- it all depends on the asking price and my analysis and wanting it.
I do it all respectfully, wisely and in a way that is fair for both of us.
It never hurts and any wise business person can tell you that it is calculated into your pricing anyway.
If they say it's a no and that is okay...It's in your court at that point. You need to be comfortable paying what you do.
