I''ve decided I really don''t like the taste of my water coming out of my faucets at home. This might sound funny, but I think the water coming out of the faucet in the bathroom tastes different even from the water in the kitchen. It has to be REALLY COLD + ice for me to enjoy it.

I''d prefer not to buy bottled water- I think it is a waste. So- do you filter your water? If so, how/what system? Is it convenient?

If you buy bottled water- what brand? Do you notice a difference?

Nope--Portland water is delicious! I have lived other places where I couldn''t drink the tap water though. I am very picky about water. In that case, I usually went with bottled because even after going through a britta filter it was

.

The exception I found was that my parents had a carbon filter installed in their sink (separate tap) and that water came out good, even though the tap water was disgusting.

Yes. The fridge we have (came with the rental) has a filter built into it. I just open the door, put my glass under the tap, and push a button and I get filtered water. It's pretty cool! Except it's tap water temperature, so in the summer you need to add ice.

I don't really like our tap water that much. It's ok and I'll drink it, but I prefer the filtered water. I've lived in other places where the tap water tasted just fine, so I didn't filter. And I probably wouldn't bother with a brita-type filter unless the water was really bad. I would also never buy bottled water unless the tap water was horrible.

My DH actually works in environmental filtration tech and does carbon filtration on massive scales... we have the normal, hook to your faucet, Brita filtration in the home. Does wonders.

And I dont believe in buying bottled water either.... a great way to destroy the planet IMHO.

Hi Charbie

Water can taste differently depending on how aerated it is (fresh tap water vs water that has been sitting overnight) I bet your kitchen tap aerates the water more.

I don''t filter water either (my city recently bought a top quality $30million new water treatment plant), but I do drink a lot of unsweetened herbal tea which adds flavour - I strongly dislike plain water bottled or otherwise.

Good luck!

I am lucky in that I have a well and no public water. Our water tastes great, plus it is ice cold, even in the summer. However, I do filter the water that comes into the house (pipe from well is connected to a water tank and the filter is connected to the water tank in our basement). I have lived here over 10 years and change the filter faithfully once a month. You wouldn't believe how dirty that filter gets and we are the only ones in the neighborhood who filters their water.

If you are just concerned about your drinking water there are filters that go under the kitchen sink. However, I hate the smell and taste of chlorine, not too mention what it does to your skin and hair. You could check out what it would cost to add a filtration system to the line that feeds into your home.

We have a Brita filter at home. Super easy to use, relatively inexpensive and more enviornmentally friendly than bottled water. Plus you can stick it in the fridge and you''ll always have cold water without needing ice.

We use a Brita filter. {NJ}

I was in orlando last year, and the water comming out of the tap smelled like rotting garbage.

I really like bottled water. Addicted, in fact

lol! That''s one way to describe it haha.

Moving to FL from NY was a huge shock when we realized we couldn''t drink the tap water!

We use the brita pitcher and there is also a filter in our fridge/freezer.

Yes. DH is very sensitive to the chlorine in water, and we''re both concerned about the chemicals that the water treatment plants aren''t required to filter out. We have a faucet system, I think it''s called AquaSana, and also a Brita pitcher. For cooking, we use water from the tap filter, for drinking we double-filter it through both that and the Brita. It''s a constant battle over where the Brita lives, though -- I like really cold water so I keep it in the fridge, but DH likes room-temp water so he''s constantly taking it out and leaving it on the counter.

We used to buy gallon jugs of water and that got to be a serious pain. Now we have a Culligan under sink mount water tap. Our town water is horrible. I don''t even like showering in it, much less drinking it w/out filtering.

We have an InstaPure faucet mount filter in the kitchen--it works very well. Our city water is not that bad, so we use it out of the tap for cooking, but the filter definitely helps the taste for drinking water.

I'm in CA so the water is nowhere near as

as in FL, but I don't care for the taste either.

We have a brita filter installed, but that's just not enough so I boil it in the kettle and let it cool again in the fridge. I'm not sure why that makes a difference, but it does!

I think I''m the minority on this but I don''t usually like the taste of filtered water. A Brita is ok, but I don''t like most bottled water. I usually drink water out of the sink, but I have had a Brita in the past and liked that.

We have a PUR water filter on our tap and we bring home five gallon jugs of high alkaline Kangen water when we can. Actually when my husband can because it''s very heavy.

Can't drink tap water, filtered from the fridge itsn't any better, we get bottled

We have a filtration unit in our basement that does the whole house. We do have another filter just for the drinking water. (I forget what its called but taps directly into the cold water)

So no more weird bathtub or shower rings. My hair dosen''t get dry or brittle, and thankfully I can use less stuff when I wash clothes too (and they come out so much cleaner)

No. Mainly because we don''t have space for a pitcher, but also because the water tastes fine. I''m glad the water tastes good up here, I have lived other places where it didn''t taste so good and my mom would stock our house with all kinds of drinks!

we use a brita (DH is obsessed) and then take it in kleen kanteens to work. it does taste better, but the unfiltered water from the tap didn''t really bother me...

We rent a water cooler and buy 5 gallon jugs for it just like our apartment was an office building. A lot of our friends make fun of us for it, but it is super convenient, way cheaper than bottled water, gives us boiling or ice cold water constantly on hand, and tastes delicious!

I have family who works in designing water wells so we have a lot of experience with systems. We have a reverse osmosis system hooked up into our kitchen sink. So basically we have a traditional faucet that regular tap water comes out of and then a second faucet for the reverse osmosis.

The water tastes really good.

Oh, and it works by automatically taking water from our pipes and running into through the two filters and then piping it into a holding tank which fits under our sink.

ETA - the system is relatively cheap. About $200-300 and then the filters (both membrane and charcoal) total about $75. The system is easy to switch out. We've moved it between four of our houses.
