How does the following Hearts and Arrow stone look to the PS experts? Is $8500 a good price? Do you think the cloud in the center will make the stone look cloudy? The vendor said that this is eye clean. *It is round the background is cropped as an oval.

I think it looks good. I doubt vendors that specialize in hearts and arrows would label this stone H&A, though. I don't think the hearts are quite perfect enough. Still probably a nice diamond. Price seems in line for an ex cut but not true H&A stone.

Thank you. It seems like all James Allen hearts and arrow stones look like that, but it also seems like the prices are very close to their ideal/excellent cut stones. I am not really familiar with the difference between a hearts and arrow versus an ideal/excellent cut. Will hearts and arrow stones perform better than ideal/excellent cuts?

H&A and cut quality are 2 different things. Light performance is determined by the alignment of the facets - that's "cut". "H&A" is a symmetry thing. Often the 2 go hand in hand in the most ideal cut stones. And in most well cut stones you can make out an arrow shape and a heart shape, but unless the arrow shafts are straights, heads perfectly aligned, heart clefts are uniform, etc... then most vendors won't stamp it "H&A".

Cut is most important - it's what makes the stone sparkle. H&A is a nice side effect of perfect cut.

niceice.com often has thorough writeups of the nuances of cut vs H&A.
