I had a bunch of people asking me way in advance to put up a registry. I didn''t really want to because I am really bad at receiving gifts but FI and family finally talked me into it saying how much people need direction and blah blah blah.

So, FI and I decided to register at BB&B. Reasoning that, since we have people from all over the US, an online site would be easiest. We already shop there for our household needs as they have alot of the styles we like and better prices then most places in the area. They send out 20% off on one item coupons all the time here in California where we are from that you can use even if they are expired.

So, here is the issue, I have had three people ask about it since we put it up and when we tell them they have made the following comments:

"why don''t you register at Macy''s"
"I want to buy you guys something but I am not getting it there, I will pick up something on my own"
"you need to register elsewhere to give people more choices"

So, the whole Macy''s thing I dont get because they have some of the same exact stuff but for more money, so why go there. I have no issue with people picking out something on there own (Personally i would prefer no gifts since they make me feel akward but personal gifts are nice). And the more choices thing? I just dont get. We have a variety of items like kitchen/bed/bath/decorative. And a large range of prices from $5 - $200 to incorporate people who want to go in on something with someone else. I finally asked that person what they meant and they said we could register for some of the same stuff at amazon, plus add books and such. HUH? why register for the same stuff somewhere else? And I thought registring for things like books and dvds and stuff was frowned down upon..

Anyway, as I was writing, our wedding is in 13 days. Not one of our registry items have been purchased. I know we didnt have a shower or anything and out here it is more common to bring a gift to a wedding rather then send it ahead of time but..stilll... does that seem odd to you? Think they all just hate that place, lol?

You will never please all people.

I registered at Crate and Barrel, to give people nice priced options.

I registered at Geary''s in Beverly Hills, an institution that all brides go to there it seems. Pricey and one store only, but nice things.

I also registered at another store, I want to say Macy''s or Bloomies, to bridge the gap.

I got gifts from all three places.

You will get stuff you did not register for. You will get things from stores you never heard of. Stick to what you like and what suits you, return what you can if you do not want it, and do not worry about the rest. No one can please all people all of the time.

I only registered at BBB and couldn''t be happier about my choice. I got no complaints, but MIL did get us very cheap walmart versions of some of the stuff to be passive aggressive, but that was more her doing yet another thing to voice her disapproval of our wedding and her trying to say I am a snob for wanting got pots(it was SO bad during the wedding weekend, DH almost uninvited her

I agree that people are going to complain no matter what and BBB will make your life so much easier it is woth the griping.

Hubby''s step-mother basically forced us into registering at Macy''s even though we had registered at two other places. We found some cute things there so we went ahead and made a registry. Well, she ended up getting ALL of our gifts at Target! I don''t understand why she was so concerned about us registering there if she wasn''t going to go there

. Oh well, we got some really great flatware from there!

People won''t all be happy with your choices so just register for what you want. I would recommend adding another store just in case, but don''t if you really can''t find anything else you want.

Personally, I don''t know anyone who hates BB&B. I''ve been to several weddings in the last year where that is the only place they registered, and everyone seems to be happy getting the couple gifts from there. A cousin of mine said her registry was a little over half fulfilled, and they ended up buying most of the rest with cash they received (at a discount, too!), so it turned out very well for them.

I might register at one more place if I were you, but if you don''t want to, don''t worry about it. People will give you whatever they feel like giving you, in the end, and there will always be the select few that gripe about whatever you choose. As Vonnegut said, "So it goes."

I could register elsewhere, but does it make much since with 13 days left? I just assumed people, if they were buying us something, would have gotten it elsewhere by now.

Then again, thats probably just me who shops in advance like that.

Hmmm...I LOVE BB&B and also registered there. No one made any comments like that. I don''t consider macy''s a high end store either. I wouldn''t worry about it.

i L-O-V-E bed bath and beyond!! and target! honestly i dont know why people instist that there be multiple places. if its not affordable for some, then get a gift card (Which is what i''ve had to do a couple times!) which is always just as appreciated!

so not sure if i have an answer for you, but don''t think that registering there is bad. i think its great!

Hahaha! I think we got only 2 gifts from BB&B out of the 70+ gifts we received! I guess people hate buying things you ''need''; or maybe they just like the ornate gift wrapping of a mega department store. Gives them one less thing to worry about if they don''t have to wrap it!

Not sure why either... Although, is it true what I hear that you can return the BB&B gifts you don''t want in for cash?

People I knew were weird about the BBB thing too—many people bought from there, but like 30% refused to. Equated it to Target (not that there is anything wrong with Target, IMO, just stating what the comments were like). A lot of them said that they want to get me ‘nicer’ and even when I said, that they have ALL the same things as Macy’s they wouldn’t listen. I was worried they were going to go off registry so I finally had to register at Crate and Barrel. I got a lot of gifts from there, some off registry (I got a toaster and a blender from C&B I didn't register for and the ones from my BBB registry, kept the BBB ones) and returned 90% of the stuff from BBB for credit: I just bought a sectional with the credit on Sunday. Seriously, that’s what I had to do. Makes no sense, but there it is.

I registered for nearly everything at BB&B and only put china and crystal on my Dillard''s registry - everything on our BB&B registry was purchased except for 2 items - so I guess people around here don''t hate BB&B...

I always buy from there - I love and appreciate the 20% off coupons that we get in the mail about 90 times a month!
