Wedding Do I need to get my MOH a gift?

I probably do.

I'm paying for hair and makeup and I'm either giving her, or she's borrowing some jewelry I bought (I bought it for her...but she's got this pride thing, so I may have to just tell her to borrow them, then 'forget' to ask for them back... so they won't count as a present).

Okay. So I do. Now what to get her. We have really different tastes.

She's from CA. Her mom teaches Art at a University.
She's finishing her PhD in TX in Art History. Pre-Columbian Art so she's in south amercia often.
Moving to Mississippi for her first real job as a professor in the next few weeks.
Loves artsy craftsy stuff. Appreciates workmanship.
Loves Blue.
Loves animals and is BIG TIME into animal rights, against fur and a vegetarian.
Um... drives a giant diesel Ford truck. It fits her.
Loves horses (see the truck)


In short, we're completely different. LOL. But good friends just the same. But I am totally at a loss what to get her. I thought she would appreciate something from Etsy, but just not sure what from there, you know?

Any suggestions, oh BWW shopping mavens?

Is she interested in ALL art history or just mainly pre-columbian? Is she religious at all? What kind of budget are you working with?

Have you seen Novica.com ? Its really cool - lots of art from around the world. And it was started by National Geographic, so the idea is that they cut out the regular middlemen art/craft importers so you can buy directly from the artists. You can even see a little photo/bio of the artist on the page....

to go in a totally different direction, donna hart is an artist here in LA. www.atouchofhart.com she did all these really beautiful fashion portraits in the 50s/60s and now she redoes them with watercolors - check out the framed vintage models or the bride note cards -

I think I will do either the bride note cards or ask her to do some of the models custom in the colors of my girls'' dresses as "thank you" cards for the bridesmaids...

No idea what my budget should be. But well, probably less than 100 dollars. Not religious. At all. I think she''s interested in all art history. More interested in certain parts of it certainly, but not uninterested in any of it.

Rockzilla... I love those martini glasses! They are really cool and exactly the shade she loves. The throw looks beautiful, but she likes vibrancy and it''s muted. I LOVE the vase but a) out of budget and b) I think something more vibrantly hued would suit her tastes better. She''s not a pastel girl at all. In fact, I can''t think of anything I associate with her that isn''t richly hued. Never thought of it that way before.

Okay. SO the martini glasses are budget freindly and lovely AND they are socially responsible. Score. Any other suggestions? I hope to get a list of a couple of ideas then ask John what he likes, and thinks we should get.

I LOVE THEM. But, I suspect you are right about not her cup of tea.

She loves native crafts and tribal things. And vibrant colors.

I am loving the martini glasses though.

The martini glasses are very cute! I asked about religious/budget because I have taken several art history courses and love the byzantine era. I know of a lady who paints beautiful byzantine icons, but if she is not religious then I don''t know that she would appreciate it. And its a bit out of budget.
