Do most vendors ask for a GIA report in order to have your ring re-set? i saw on Whiteflash web-site that they ask for one. I would have thought having your ring Appraised would have been suffice.

With most setters a competent appraisal is sufficient. Note, less than all apprasiers are competent. If your setter has some specific documentation requirements, ask and make sure you are complying. Usually this has to do with their insurance and liability while setting so it's important to get it right.

I would suggest calling in and asking. My understanding (which could be mistaken so call in!!) is that WF will not work with non-GIA/AGS stones unless the circumstances are exceptional, and in those cases they require an appraisal. They've made custom settings for me using OECs (no reports) that I provided appraisals for.

Hi Maisedaisy,
Your question was brought to my attention and since it is a question about our policy I am posting so that it might benefit others in the same situation.

Our "take-in" policy mirrors our business model in that we only sell AGS and GIA diamonds, and it is designed to eliminate any misunderstandings. With a reliable lab report we are able to positively identity the diamond before we work on it. As part of the understanding, customers are asked to acknowlege the inherent risk in setting diamonds and are required to sign a waiver of liability.

As part of our ISO 9000 certification, our quality control procedures are specified and policies published. You can find the policy here:
http://www.whiteflash.com/about-diamonds/jewelry/working-with-customers-diamonds-and-jewelry-875.htm

Having said all that, Yssie is correct in that we reserve the right to make certain exceptions! For instance, we do occassionally accept diamonds or gemstones for pricescope members based upon an appraisal and with a signed liability waiver. You can discuss this with the Whiteflash rep you are working with to see if we are able to accomodate you.

If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact me.

Regards,
Bryan
