Do I have to have a Hearts and Arrows diamond?

I am looking for a 2 -2.25 carat diamond, round, brilliant, do not want to overspend but have a budget of 25k

I saw one with an J color that I am considering but just wanted to know, is HA far and above superior when it comes to the sparkle?

no, but also depends on how much of a premium ...

Incorrect. Hearts and Arrows is a measure of symmetry only, not a measure of light performance. For that you also need something with ideal proportions. You can easily have an over-deep diamond with H&A. With that said, most branded H&A stones have also been cut to have excellent light performance. But you really need to make sure it has both and not just the less important one.

An H&A claim is not, of itself, a measure of much of anything in terms of optics but the first step is to see if there’s a claim being made at all. As a rule the cutters go through a bit of extra effort to get the effect and this is usually paired with an effort to get excellent results in other areas too. Whether or not this happened, and whether or not anyone else would call it h&a is a matter of looking at the stone and deciding if it meets whatever standards you are applying. The information is NOT present on the lab report and it is NOT correct to assume it’s h&a simply because it has an AGS-0. Many are, many are not.
