Each store makes their own policy. At some stores if you purchased your diamond from them setting is free. If you did not buy your diamond from that store you can expect to pay for the setting. Charges are based usually on the size of the diamond being set.
An issue that accompanies a diamond being set is the liability responsibility in case the diamond is damaged in the process. Be assured that you are covered in the eventuallity of the worst happening. Inspect it carefully before accepting it after it is set.
I am sure that if the setting is not platinum,if it is a 4/6 prong 14k setting, and the purchase of the stone is a substential, I am sure they'll throw it in.
