So, I found a B/M dress that I really like. However, it is definitely on the higer end of most of my B/M''s budgets, most likely not even in some of thiers (I would contribute $50 or $100).
Does anyone know how often designers do price cuts? Will it be after the Fall ends? Or most likely after the spring since it is from the Fall 08 line? They are quoting me a 10 week RUSH time. So I''m guessing at least 3-4 months for regular ordering.

My wedding is July 25, 2009. Any help would be much appreciated.

Here''s the dress, It would be in black.

Very pretty!

What company? Netbride''s are lower, but only with certain manufacturers.

Thanks Lanie... it is Badgley Mischka. It''s priced at $330 on edressme.com, and I can''t find anything lower or on sale anywhere on the net.

BM and Bridal gowns never go down in price unfortunately even past seasons still sell for same price, the only time I heard of them going down in price is like if you buy a sample off the rack or if they are being discontinued and the bridal salon wants to get rid of it. It is very pretty and elegant are you sure there isn''t anything similar that can be found for less money?

1. I would never order anything as important as a bridesmaid dress off the internet. I just don''t think that it''s "smart". To many things can go wrong...like mismatching dye lots, sizing, and even delivery. Esspecially if you''re going to take it down to 10 weeks before the wedding...thats not even enough time to come up with a reasonable backup plan should something go wrong.

2. BM dresses usually don''t go "on sale" they are typically kept till the end of the season/trend and then up on clearance with a steep discount--which more or less means you''ll be buying floor samples---and then the dress is never seen or heard from again. Designer/Designer dresses may work differently, but that may also mean they are not "bridemaid dresses" persay and more of a formal evening gown.

3. It''s important to remember designer gowns rarely if ever run true to dresses sizes. If you walk around a size 6 everyday, you''ll probably buy a size 10 dress, and designers gowns get even crazier than that. If you do go the internet route, make sure the girls are measured by a few professionals--so you get a true messure. Also, make sure they try that dress on for themselves somewhere (anywhere)...because mermaid dresses do fit "different".

I picked Alfred Angelo gowns and ordered them from netbride and there were no issues. They arrived in two months instead of the three months they had projected and I saved my girls $60-$80.

Allieluv, thanks for the input. I guess it''s pretty much common sense. What''s the point in making a dress that is out of style, when you can produce ones that people are buying. I was just being hopeful.

Italia, thanks!
Here were my thoughts. We will go and try on the dresses at a salon, or Neimens, and then possibly order them online if there is a much better price. It still makes me worry about how you said that they could be cut from completely different die fabs, so maybe just sucking it up and getting them from a designer is the best idea. My MOH said that she loved it, then I told her the price, and she hasn''t email''d back, LOL! So we''ll see if it''s even going to be an option anymore...
I will definitely not be waiting until 10 weeks before. I was just surprised that that is their "rush" time. I thought rush was usually 5-8 weeks. It just made me realize I don''t have alot of time to wait for the price to go down. I also don''t want to risk trying to find each dress, in each size, from 10 different salons across the country, once it gets discontinued. The size thing shouldn''t be a problem since I''m going to make sure each of the BM''s tries it on in person, before we make a final decision. Also, I had totally forgotten about the "fitting" of a mermaid dress until you brought it up. All of my BM''s are pretty slender and average height, to tall. Here''s to hopeing.

Paloma, I checked with netbride and they don''t carry this designer. Thanks though!

Watters has some really pretty ones that are similar that would be cheaper. I can''t copy and paste the picture, but try style number 8382 on their website:

www.watters.com

It looks a lot like your dress that you want them to wear.

bm dresses don''t normally go down in cost unless you buy samples and as someone said, you run the risk of different dye lots etc.

But if you are looking for cheaper dresses, I would recommend looking at jcrew and ann taylor. Make sure you get them sized since jcrew and ann taylor are all sales final on the sale/clearance dresses.

The dress you picked is gorgeous. If it weren''t so expensive, I would consider buying it for kicks :)

For a designer brand like that, think about going to Bloomies, Sax, or somewhere where you can get a friends and family discount at certain times of the year, and during that window open a store credit card (which you obv plan to pay off quickly and then snip up) and pay for all of the dresses with the F&F and the new card. By doing that in one wedding we got 45% of of Vera Wang dresses which otherwise would have been about $400. Its just like the salon, you just order them all at once, as Italian said, dye lots are something to think about. The F&F discounts can be used in conjunction with the one time only credit card opening discount, most other discounts you know, they cancel themselves out. Just something to think about, your dress choice is gorgeous!

Thanks again Lanie, I looked over the website, and they just look a little too bridesmaid for me. However, as we all know, a bride''s mind can change at any minute. I''ll keep it in my favorites, JIC!!

gtn, I''ll definitely take a look at both of those. Thanks!

Swimmer, that is a GREAT idea! Thank you! Even if I can''t find a F&F discount, and I hate opening credit cards, I think I could at least get the 15-20% off. I looked at Niemens online, and they don''t carry the dress, but I''ll definitely call to see if they do any special orders. I''ll be sure to check Bloomies and Saks as well. Thanks again!!

I talked with my MOH and she loves the dress, and said that eventhough it''s high, it''s a great dress and will go with the theme of the wedding really well. (Can you see why she''s my MOH!

) I''ve located the salons where they are sold, to try them on. I will go with one BM this weekend in Houston, and then with MOH and possibly 2 of the other BM''s when I go back to DFW for Thanksgiving. If they don''t look good on, then we don''t have to worry about the price anyway!! Thanks again everyone.
