Disgusted With Maul Jewelers

I went to the mall today and scoped out a few jewelry stores. I just wanted to try on a few different carat sizes to get a better idea of what size I want sure. I saw a diamond that was shown as being.73 but it looked no bigger than a half. I thought maybe it was just that store but it was several of them !! One lady even showed me one that she said was a 2 1/2 carat, looked more like a carat to me. Now I''m just frustrated because I feel like I''m not going to be able to get an idea of what suits me. One of my friends suggested going to pawn shops to look but I''m not sure if that would be more of the same. Thank goodness for this place though !!

Go to a Jared, Mayors, or Bailey Banks and Biddle. Or a Tiffanys if you''ve got one in the area. Their mark-ups are quite high, but they will have enough goods to show you what you want to see. And they carry well cut stones, so they should face up the right size. Just don''t get wrapped into their rediculous sales pitches. Some stores are ok, but some will talk you into giving them your phone number or email address and then will NEVER leave you alone. (I am a sucker.)

What shape stone were you looking at? Princesses face up smaller than rounds...

Been there. Going into jewelry stores can be frustrating. I was trying to look for stones that were in I or J color to get a feel whether these stones would look too yellowish. One sales lady at a local mall store showed me a stone that (I swear) could have been a yellow diamond, with lots of inclusion (I thought that was a real yellow "rock"). AND, she ridiculed me for wanting to look at I or J color stones. She also showed me a stone that she claimed to be GIA excellent cut that looked like 0.6 or 0.7 ct. The stone was very white, but no fire at all even in store lighting. She didn't show me the GIA cert, she said the cert was out to another store. Anyway, I'll never walk into that store again.

I was looking at rounds today. I think I will end up checking out Tiffany''s. My cousin got her e-ring there and hers is between a .60 and .75,her hubby couldn''t remember for sure LOL But I was kind of using hers a point of reference. A couple ladies got grouchy with me, they must hate customers who have somewhat of an idea of what they''re talking about LOL

I second the idea of going to a high quality store to get a great idea of what size you would like. Tiffanys carat weights should look like a well-cut stone''s dimensions and give you a good idea of what you would like.

The way a stone is cut can also make it look smaller.
