Hello Again,

I have Discovered that James Allen gives a discount (5% or 2%) to pricescope members! Is this true of any other online vendors, and if so how much?

I appreciate all of the help you have given me!

Whiteflash does the same.

Other vendors give everyone their lowest price without having to be a forum member.
Im not going to get into why I feel forum based discounts are unfair its been discussed to death before.

SO are you telling me that James Allen is the only one that gives an additional discount.

am i missing something here? is this a sore subject?

He''s telling you that Whiteflash also gives a PS discount.

how much of a discount?

I think most people are not going to want to speak for the vendors on this. All the vendors on here have contact functions on their websites and i''m sure you could email them and ask if they offer a discount and if so how much.

Whiteflash give a PS discount and theres also a discount if you pay via bankwire, but I dont think you can use both. Just to be on the safe side call the vendors you are interested in and ask I''m sure they won''t mind giving you the information you need.

One thing I should note...You have to ask for the pricescope discount to get it!

Before we even had this forum, Pricescope was only diamond price comparison site and historically vendors listed stones here with special discount (common practice for price comparison sites). Thousands of people use it without registering on the forum...

Bottom line: it is not a "member''s discount ". One should not have to be a forum member or even read this forum to get prices listed in the database. All you have to do is to tell your vendor you found that price through the pricescope search to get the listed price.

hope this helps...

Storm, what in particular you don't like in this practice except it creates more competitive environment which should be beneficial for consumers?

If a vendor lists competitive prices without additional discounts, his stones will be listed accordingly among similar diamonds.

It has nothing to do with competition here or anyplace else it has to do with my sense of fairness.

Almost 10 years ago I was on a computer mailing list that had a simular deal with vendors .. didnt like it then either.

I just feel its more fair for all consumers for the best price to be offered to everyone not just a select few.
It is kewl for PS visiters and great PR for the companies but sux for members of the general public who didnt find PS first.

Sometimes fairness is not the issue, but survival, if not financial health.

Building, developing and earning customer loyalty is what creating a successful business is all about. Generally, this is a win-win. What was a missed opportunity, unless a person was excluded from receiving a discount previously because of bias or prejudice, could be available for this person tomorrow, and will engage them for returning, too.

I see no problems.

I personally believe that most of the general public is astute enough to realize that pricing breaks and offers exist in many retail avenues, and it''s up to each individual to determine if they care enough about it to prusue it. I don''t see this as a "fairness" issue.

No one pays sticker price for a car; such transactions are usually subject to individual negotiation. Grocery stores give discounts to those who take an extra minute to fill out shopper cards. Senior citizens get discounts on many things if they belong to AARP or similar organizations.

As is true in many other areas of life, those who are willing to do a little homework are often rewarded for their efforts with a slightly better price.

Others who don''t care to do the homework or have other things they''d rather spend their time are typically fine with spending a little more for the convenience of not having to do the homework.
