I bought from DCD before it was bought out. I loved the service, quality and PRICE! The new site jamesallen.com leaves me feeling underwhelmed and too corporate. It seems to be like every other site out there. Am I wrong? Can anyone recommend a a site like DCD or what new ones provide good value and service? I prefer to also have the item reviewed by an independent appraiser of my choice before purchasing. Thanks.

JA is the same people from DCD
Since you liked them before why not give them a try?

I had to go there in person to return a diamond once and it was was not at all big and corporate. The people were very nice and helpful. I know they also have an office in MD or somewhere but the one in NYC was a small office in the diamond district.

Besides James Allen, Good Old Gold, WhiteFlash, Brian Gavin Diamonds, and Winfields all carry top quality stones and are excellent vendors!

1) Anyone knows what was the reason for the name change?

2) Are ID.Jewellery , Exceldiamonds and Union diamonds vendors of PS too?

3) From what I have gathered reading through old old posts
John Pollard was formerly from Whiteflash and is now at CraftedByInfinity.com
Brian Gavin was formerly from Whiteflash and has his own company now....

Why did they leave WF?

Okay, I "think" that I can answer your questions without violating the forum rules pertaining to one vendor discussing another vendor since the answers are basic enough, but if not "I apologize" in advance...

I was involved with the launch of High Performance Diamonds, so... Wink wanted to launch a new web site which was descriptive of the diamond quality which he represents and "High Performance Diamonds" is certainly a good description of the Crafted by Infinity ideal cut diamonds which that web site focuses upon.

IDJ, Excel and Union Diamonds are all known here on PS, you can run a search for their names using the search box on this page.

John was offered an excellent opportunity to move up to the cutter level of the game by Infinity Diamonds and Brian Gavin with White Flash recognized the magic of the opportunity and said "go for it" - they remain good friends.

There is a thread within the Diamond Hangout section of the forum pertaining to Brian Gavin's departure from White Flash, as I recall it's around late December / early January.

While many of us have redesigned our web sites over the past year, I think you'll find that the people behind the sites are still the same despite the web sites having a more professional image or "corporate feel" as DHouser described it. Many of us felt it was time for our sites to have a face lift and changed our standard HTML format to template style designs and the basic structure of this type of architecture tends to look a lot more formal - I know that I'm still trying to get used to it!

I purchased my diamond from www.usacerteddiamonds.com. They help you find the diamond that''s right for you, then send it to an independent appraiser in your area for you to look at. They offered me the lowest price on the stone I was looking for, beating out the other recommended vendors here. The only bad thing is, they don''t have an upgrade policy -so that''s something to think about in your search.

Re-reading, I DO see, per Todd, you ARE asking about Winfields. But, fyi, with DCD/James Allen, you could see the name change through a series of threads here, from a few years ago. Actually, I think what Todd says applies here, too.

2) Are ID.Jewellery , Exceldiamonds and Union diamonds vendors of PS too?
All three are advertisers here, yes. But do see this thread in FAQS.

3) From what I have gathered reading through old old posts

Personal thoughts...this may be a function of statistics...with one of the largest vendors here being watched very closely, and where change happens naturally. That said, surely the details matter...and although I'm not sure the last story's actually been told here, I do think the answer is probably a function of business, that is not too substantive to performance. I suppose none of what I've written here really goes to your question though, so you might even take this long answer as a reinforcer to your own question, and support of further insight, if anyone really has any. (If anyone saw the recent MSN/Slate post about Biden and his Bidenisms, maybe he and I should join a club!).

Regards,

My on line presence changed from Winfield''s/WinkJones.com to www.HighPerformancediamonds.com because it more clearly states what we are truly about and the educational content of the site. We just felt that we wanted a name that was more indicitive of what we believe in and what we do.

When you come by my office in Boise the sign still says Winfield''s as that is how our local clients know us.

As a Crafted by Infinity Dealer I have a pretty good idea about why John left WhiteFlash to join Crafted by Infinity, but I believe it would be more appropriate for me to let him answer that question. Let me just say that he left with the blessings of the people at WhiteFlash and that he continues to have contacts with them as a recent journal article was in fact a collaboration between John and some of the people still with WhiteFlash.

Well, as usual, Todd beat me to the punch and did a very nice job of explaining why I changed my name...

Thanks Todd!

Hi dhouser and Welcome;

I just want to take this opportunity to clarify that we are a paying advertiser on Pricescope and are featured both in the Diamond Vendors section here:

https://www.pricescope.com/dealers.asp

and in the local New York Vendors section here:

https://www.pricescope.com/jewelers_NY.aspx

Best regards,
