Hi, new member but several-week lurker. I think I''ve landed on the TR-005 tension ring by Gelin Abaci in white gold and am thinking about getting it from dimend SCAASI. Have been chatting with one of their reps a couple of times now but am just wondering if anyone has any experience with trying to actually implement their warranty / guarantee on tension engagement rings. I''m having trouble getting detailed information on exactly what is and what is not covered and just don''t want to find myself in a horror story situation of "sorry, even though this ring was designed to endure every day wear and tear and then your diamond fell out, that doesn''t qualify as a manufacturer''s defect". Not sure if I''m expecting too much. Obviously getting the ring specifically insured should cover just about everything but, again, having never insured anything like this, I''m just trying to figure out what I can expect as fas as having everything taken care of if something is lost / damaged.

Also, on a separate note, I''m in Canada and will be having the ring shipped to Sweetgrass, MT and will just drive down to get it to save on brokerage so it doesn''t really matter where I get it from in the US - really just looking for the best deal. Would I be better off with Mickey Roof or some other GA dealer?

Thanks

Welcome from lurkdom Mr. S.

Warranties for rings (not just tension-set - any ring) pertain to workmanship/manufacture. A manufacturer’s warranty will not cover catastrophic events like the diamond falling out, simply because no one can know what a ring will be exposed to during wear. For this reason it’s prudent to have an insurance policy on the diamond & ring to cover any issues once you “drive it off the lot."

Gelin Abaci sets minimum-pricing for all of their pieces. In my experience dealers who publish prices on the ‘net are typically at-or-near this minimum. Dealers who say “email us for a price quote” may be setting prices over the minimum or may be quoting below it trying to undercut the competition (a practice which would make me lose trust in the dealer). My advice is to be completely up-front with the sellers: If you find a GA piece with the same warranties/benefits offered for less with seller A, simply disclose it to seller B and ask if they’ll match the price.
