Hi all,

I am a long time lurker, first time poster. Several months ago I purchased a shared prong rose cut eternity band from Dimend Scaasi for my wedding band. I requested that the back of the band be closed to help protect the stones, but now I'm rethinking that decision. When I finally started wearing the band after my wedding a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that the reflection of the metal was causing the stones to look gray and dull. I contacted Stephanie at DS and she recommended that I ship the ring back and have them drill holes at the bottom of each stone. I have a couple of concerns about this- she cannot guarantee that this would fix the problem, and I'm somehat wary of going through the hassle of sending it back (not to mention paying to fix it) with no guarantees. Also, Stephanie also advised that closing the back would provide even more protection against damage, which is apparently even more of a concern wtih rose cuts because she said they can be chipped more easily. I had never seen rose cuts IRL before I recieved my band, so I was nervous about how they would perform. Now I'm thinking I made a mistake! Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any advice you all can give me :wavey:

No advice to offer sorry. I would assume the vendor is the best person to advise you though in this case.

Do you have any pictures of the band?

I do, but what none that really capture what I'm describing. Thanks for the advice, I guess my best bet is to send it back to Dimend Scaasi and hope for the best.

Hi, I have a rose cut wedding band too. I really don't think the modern versions are any more prone to chipping than any other cut, in fact I would think it would be less on account of lack of steep angles exposed like other stones. Moreover, what kind of damage could possibly come from underneath? I would not make that your desicision making factor unless the lack of holes means dirt is getting trapped there. Will holes change the look of the stones? I'm guessing not a whole lot since there is no pavilion to benefit from the additional light. I think it comes down to whether you like the look of rose cuts. It does need to be kept extra clean to perform it's best. I have noticed mine can look greasy super quickly. I love the subtle soap bubble- like sheen of a rose cut. If it's not for you I'll take the band off your hands! Seriously I would love to find a 4-4.5 sized one at a discount.

Hi Kelpie :wavey: I absolutely adore your set, so thanks so much for your input! I'm no diamond expert, so I didn't quite understand why she thought that the stones being unprotected on the bottom would make them more prone to chips- it's not like I would go around sticking things up there! At any rate, I really do love the look of rose cuts, I know they're not for everyone but I think they complement my oec engagement ring well. Thanks!

Hi MPH - I need help! I'm looking to purchase the rose cut eternity band in the 4 prong setting from Dimend Scaasi. Can you please post some photos of your ring? I'm nowhere near Chicago, and they cannot provide a CAD until I've paid in full.

Thanks!

Hi Mayflower!

Too funny to see this old thread dug up. I took some crappy iPhone pics, please keep in mind they were taken at night. I'm happy to try again tomorrow in the daylight. Adam at OWD came to the rescue and enlarged the azures for me (love that guy!) after DS refused to work on it anymore. Just keep in mind that if you get it metal-backed the stones will be quite dark. Let me know if I can be of any further help!

Thank you for entertaining my request :). That is one beautiful ring! Which carat weight did you select? If you have time tomorrow, would you mind posting a profile view?

What were the challenges you met with DS? I know it would be easiest to work with a local jeweler, but am sure it would cost 2x!

I'll take a profile pic tomorrow. It was the 1ct band.

I was frustrated with them because I felt like they didn't warn me or try to discuss how adding the metal backing would affect the light performance. When I contacted them with my concerns, they agreed (after a fight) to add azures in the back, but said that I would be responsible for any damage to the stones. Perhaps that's unfair, and I certainly know better now, but it would have been nice to have a heads up because I would have decided to go without the metal. At any rate it's a gorgeous band, very well made, and I've had zero problems with loose or lost stones since the purchase over 3 years ago. HTH!
