Hello everyone,

After reading online, my husband and I decided we wanted to get a stand-alone Chubb jewelry insurance policy for the new diamond solitaire we got from Whiteflash. I called a local agent here in the Bay Area and she was fantastic - she got my information and got a quote from Chubb right away. She didn''t refuse to sell a stand-alone jewelry policy and she didn''t pressure us to buy other policies.

She came back with a preliminary quote of $105 a year for an appraised value of $5,500. She said it was subject to underwriter approval, so I gave her the additional info she needed and she contacted the underwriter about getting the policy written.

So here''s where the disappointment comes in - the local agent comes back and says that the underwriter will not write a stand-alone jewelry policy with an annual premium less than $200. I was stunned, since in reading other threads on Chubb insurance, I have seen people with premiums less than $200 several times (I don''t think I''ve seen a premium of $200 or more, actually). So I called the Chubb corporate phone number - spoke to one very rude, not very helpful person. Called back and chose a different option on the menu and spoke to someone else who was more helpful. She said that, as far as she knew, Chubb would not write policies with annual premiums less than $250 in California!

Has anyone else come up with this difficulty? I really wanted a Chubb policy and it''s so disappointing that I won''t be able to get one. It''s so confusing - why did they give the local agent a preliminary quote if there was no chance it would be approved?

So now I''m frustrated and feeling at a loss for how to proceed. Any advice is deeply appreciated. Just because we don''t have a $10,000+ ring doesn''t mean we don''t deserve to have the peace of mind of insurance!

Thanks for reading, and for any feedback you might have.

Also, if anyone is in the San Francisco, CA Bay Area and wants to speak to a very friendly Chubb agent that is more than happy to sell a stand-alone jewelry policy with no pressure for additional policies, I spoke with:

BROWN & BROWN INSURANCE OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
3 HAMILTON LANDING,#1600
NOVATO, CA 94949
Phone: 415-884-7400
Fax: 415-884-7470

The agent''s name is Maureen.

Golden,

Perhaps you could help yourself & others here.

Call these people:

The Plastridge Agency of Boca Raton
Toll Free : 800-473-6603

ask if they''ve identified someone to replace David Stone in their office to help you, and if they''re licensed to do business where you are. They only had been licensed in 20 states before, but seemed to readily do business in those, but hey -- that''s 2/5s. But, last checked, they were in transition, David was getting out, and purportedly, they were going to replace him. Seems like that conversation was 2 months ago.

Let us know!

Best,

I''ve had the same experience lately!!!!!! I called one place listed online that sells
Chubb, and the woman said only if I put another policy with them (house or car).......the other office said I had to call a larger office....whom I had already called, and they had referred me to the ones I called......They had put the manager on, and she said that the policy would soon be changing to EXCLUDE one''s having the ability to take a cashout...that they would be using the model whereby the company will replace the stone from one of their suppliers....don''t know if this is true or just her sales pitch.......I want a policy tht covers breakage, not just LOSS.....let me know if you have any luck.....

Ira - thanks for the info on David Stone. I saw his contact info in another thread, and I sent him an e-mail over a week ago but never got a response. I called his office and left a message on his voicemail yesterday, but no response back. If he''s getting out of that office, that would explain why he hasn''t gotten in touch with me. I''ll call his office and ask if there''s anyone else to talk to there.

And Maxine - I''m not sure what state you''re in, but perhaps you might consider contacting the Chubb agent I mentioned in the first post in this thread. Maybe she is licensed to sell insurance to people in your state. She was really helpful and didn''t give me the run-around or pressure for buying other policies. I hope Chubb isn''t changing its model to be a replacement-type policy instead of a cash-out policy. Their coverage is so much more comprehensive than standard replacement policies - it''s really what I''d like for my ring, but its seeming like it might not be possible to get coverage for a less expensive ring.
