I am looking at getting a diamond. I am considering 2 right now. 1 is a solasfera that is .74 ct f,vs2 and the other is a H&A round that is .872 ct d,vs2 HCA 1.1. The average diameters are 5.90 mm and 6.11 mm. When i get out my metric machinest calipers I dont see a difference. How much difference will I see in a setting or better yet how much difference will she see?

thanks

Remember that the visual impact is the difference in the *area* of the diamond, looking down at it--not the difference in the length of the two diameters. Still, it''s not an enormous difference. Did you look at the two side by side?

In your case, I would be looking for a .85-.99 ct F color. That D will cost you, but it won''t be easy (maybe not even possible) to tell the difference in looks once it''s set.

While a good H&A is georgous the Solasfera has powerful crackling light return all the way out to the entire circumfrence of the girdle.

Most H&As don't do that; look at several Idealscope photos.
Those white areas at the girdle are light leakage, light that is not returned to your eye when you view the diamond face up.
You won't really notice it if you look at a good H&A alone, but when you put the two side by side there is no comparison.

I have seen the Solasfera right beside an excellent H&A of the same size and the Solasfera looked larger.
There was just so much fire activity everywhere it almost seemed to be coming from space beyond the stone.
It is freaky.
The slight premium you pay for a Solasfera is worth it IMHO.
This was especially evident when I compared a Solasfera side by side to an Eightstar, which costs about twice the price.
They were very different looks but in terms of fire and light return and sparkle the Solasfera held its own next to the Eightstar, which many consider to be the gold standard of round cuts.

Also, Ds are great but you *really* pay a premium for something very difficult to notice.
But the benefits of a Solasfera will jump right out at you.

Try to find a way to see them side by side.

The problem is that they are both from the internet and the place is not even close to where I am which mean that i would have to buy both and look at them here and then return one. I want to put the chosen stone in a vatche setting which means both stones have to go back and then chosen one has to be set in the setting for the lifetime warrenty to be valid. Me being a college kid I am working overtime and odd jobs just to get one let alone both. I did apply for anouther credit card last week and I do have good credit so maybe i will be able to get both on different cards and then return one for refund.

Good idea, do that.
After you see them side by side I believe you will not mind going through the hassle and paying the shipping.

Show them to your friends but don''t explain anythng before they see them.
Just say here are two stones, which one do you like best.
Tell us what they say.

BTW I am just a consumer, I don''t get anything for blabing about the Solasfera from anyone.

You can''t go wrong with either one. One thing I would like to suggest is going down in either color or clarity to save $ considering the fact that you are working part time while studying and also thinking about using credit card on top of that. You can always buy bigger and better diamond when you make more money after you graduate~

As for h&a vs solasfera, each has its own look. Solasfera seems to have appearance that is slightly "finer" but less bold compared to h&a if that makes sense~ I hope everything goes well for you and your better half~
