Hi ya'll (okay, so I am from NY and don't really speak like that ;)), I actually tawwwwwwk more like that :)

Anyways, JUST curious, I love Good Old Gold's August Vintage Cushion Cut and have had the pleasure of seeing those beauties in person (I live and grew up less than a mile from their store), but I am just curious- is engagementringsdirect "A Cut Beyond" stone a similar cut to GOG's AVC? The price of those stone's seem to be much lower than GOG's and I was wondering if it is the same cut since they look so similar! Here is a link to one of the stones on engagementringsdirect site:

http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/2.02-carat-i-vs2-a-cut-beyond-cushion-cut-diamond-gid-73317.html

They are similar but AVC is a little more chunky and has a maltese cross pattern to the pavilion facets and the ERD cut avoids this, at least in the ones I've seen on video. It's very much a personal preference thing, but I prefer the A Cut Beyond myself.

ETA: That particular stone looks gorgeous by the way. Are you the person it is on hold for?

Thanks Gypsy, that clarifies things SO much!

One one other (maybe, kind of dumb?) quick question- is the "crushed ice" effect in direct correlation with the cut of a cushion ?? It seems that stones from GOG's AVC line and engagementringsdirect "Cut Beyond" line don't have that look, or is this just because it is not something that is really visible from the photo?

Yes, it is a faceting trait. And no these two facet patterns do not exhibit it. 8)

It's not, honestly- I should really stop looking at diamonds...my boyfriend and I bought a ring back in Dec (it was a great deal on a preowned ring, you can see in my pp) + he really wanted me to have a round cut diamond...BUT my secret heart's desire has always been a cushion cut diamond :/...my bf was afraid I would change my mind and since a round diamond is such a "classic" cut he wanted me to have that...I figured that was fine because, A. Get me whatever the hell you want and let's friggin get engaged already and B. I knew the chances of finding a preowned Good Old Gold AVC at a great price was rare (this was before I found this site)....now I see engagementringsdirect sells a very close cut to GOG and seems to be more affordable for us... BUT I am still very happy with the ring he bought me...just enjoy fantasizing lol (hey, ya never know--maybe as a "push" present later on down the road!)

Thanks again for your help!!

Yeah. That's like look for a wedding dress after you've already bought one. It leads to insanity and a lot of overspending. (I speak from experience as someone who owned way too many wedding dresses).

There are ALWAYS right hand rings to consider. And if you love the AVC or the ACB you can always get one for yourself or drop huge hints for an anniversary.

But for your engagement ring, I would stop looking.

uh oh... Are you going to be unhappy with your ering? There have been a few thread discussions on this recently, but is what you have, what you really want to be wearing? Can you discuss this further with your fiance?

If it were me, I know I'd have a hard time bringing it up, but if I'm not happy .... trust me... the WORLD KNOWS IT! ( ) If your heart is set on a cushion cut and you are still looking at them... maybe the RB is not the one for you??? Not trying to stir up the pot, but feel its important for both you AND he to be thrilled with the ring...

All the best Heather! :halo:

gypsy- AHAHA, you are so right- I AM going to be one of those people, but I figured as long as I am *aware* of my indecisiveness beforehand I won't make any rash decisions!

Enerchi- What's bizarre is that I originally HATED and did not want an e-ring with a round diamond in a halo setting; and my DREAM ring was a cushion cut in a halo (my fingers are long and I love the shape of a more rectangular cushion). I already knew that my boyfriend wanted to get me a classic Tiffany style setting with a round brilliant diamond. I thought that if I was going to get a round brilliant, I would only want it in a simple setting (like my bf wanted) BUT THEN...we found someone selling the ring my bf purchased (a GIA 2.1 carat, XXX, H, SI1, in a $7000 JB Star setting for $18,500)...SO, I said to my bf that I thought it would be worth it to buy this ring, even if we don't keep it in the setting, because I thought the stone alone was worth more than what the seller was asking (if we were to buy it in the diamond district)- + it is perfectly eye-clean! I love the ring, it's beautiful BUT I don't know that I could really say anything about it after all my involvement and everything (do you know what I mean?)...also, I am just hoping that once he proposes I will love it even more and forget about my heart's desire for a cushion cut stone. Maybe I am just driving myself crazy because I don't have it yet, and I am doubting that I will  it once I own it? Maybe, I am just being spoiled- Who knows!!

He's had it since December and it's the end of February? That's just cruel and unusual punishment.

I like JB star settings they are very well done. And you are right it is worth a LOT more than what you paid. So great deal.

I think you are mostly still stressing because you don't have it on your finger. After you do, live with it for at least 6 months (although a year to be honest) and see how you feel then.

I'm with Gypsy - wear it and see how you feel about it. Right now because you don't have it (and again, i'm with Gypsy - What's the hold up? lol - Cruel Punishment!) you are second guessing your choice.

Once you have it and if you are still unsettled - time to have a chat!

I hope you get it soon... :halo:

I know right!! Worst part of all is the ring was bought from a man who decided not to propose to his gf (he bought the ring in June 2011), so now I start thinking "what if this thing is hexed!?!" lol jkkkk I think he is going to do it at the end of April..he is a tax accountant and that is when busy season is over + April 10 will be our 3 year anniversary, so we shall seeeee...after April, I may be thinking kleenex instead of cushion cuts lol

One thing is for sure, if I do make any changes you guys will know about it! :D
