Difference between 1.2-1.5 ct princess/brilliant

Is there a noticeable difference between princess/radiant stones in the 1.2-1.5 range? I know it's millimeters, but how obvious is it really, considering no one will be looking at the GIA cert on a regular basis. GF would like at least 1.5 but stones in the 1.2 range seem much common and more reasonable with my budget.

Thoughts/pictures would be appreciated!
