Did you buy one stone at a time for your diamond studs?

So sarap333''s SMTB thread on her gorgeous transitional stud earrings got me thinking...If you found the perfect stone for your diamond studs, would you go ahead and buy it and wait for the matching stone? Is that what you actually did?

Yup, that''s what I did!

I didn''t intend on getting the original stone for earrings, but the longer I looked at it the more I thought, "You''d look really pretty on my ear!" So then I stalked and waited and bulked up my savings so that I could pull the trigger when I found a mate. They''re well matched (not exact, but close enough that the difference isn''t noticable until you''re practically on top of them), and they make me happy. It was kind of risky since they''re OECs and small - .18 and .19 cts each, so I wasn''t sure if a mate would pop up. It made it kind of thrilling, though.

I considered doing this, but I was just too worried that I wouldn''t be able to find the right matching stone. I figured that the folks at WF would probably do a much better job of finding two stones that match than I would be able to do! LOL!

I was going to! I got one OEC, the vendor had an almost-match and I wasn''t sure that''d be good enough for me. But then I started to worry that if I didn''t snatch it up I''d be in for a long wait and it wouldn''t find a mate before the wedding, so I snatched it up - and I''m so glad I did, even if it was a bit more than I wanted to spend I haven''t seen anything close since!

I have been thinking of doing the same thing!!

A few weeks ago I was looking at two pairs of diamonds, the first were .80ctw and the second were a bit over 1ct. I wasn''t too sure if I wanted to go bigger so I sent off an email about both pairs and the larger ones were sold while I was sleeping! I was so upset that I instantly new I wanted the larger size, but with the larger size comes the higher price. So my plan was to buy one, sit on it, save up some more and then buy the other and have the earrings made. I emailed the vendor and asked if this would be possible but I am yet to hear back. I know that I will run the risk of nothing similar showing up for quite some time but I am ok with that. I am trying to teach myself patience anyway.

Well, I just recently bought the diamonds for my 1st pair of studs. I wasn''t even in the market! What happened is that I just love cruising the online listing of several vendors. One is GOG. And one day I saw perfectly matched J .41 and .42''s, and it was too much to pass up an opportunity like that. There is no way in Hades, I could afford to get AVCs for studs otherwise. They usually don''t even have any under .60, let alone matching color, squareness, and clarity. So in my case, the only way I would have gotten them is to get the 2 at the same time.

I did this for my OEC earrings. I found one that I wanted but not it''s perfect match. I wanted to take my time so I bought an imperfect match and wore them for about a year. I got a bit impatient and wanted to enjoy them as earrings. A year ago I found my perfect match. The cost of unsetting and resetting a stone was $20 at my local jewellers. I''ve since sold the other stone.

I bought both of my pairs of studs in pairs. Fortunately for me, when I was ready to buy, I found two loose diamonds (each time) that were identical.

He he, we PS''ers are just too funny!! I swear we think the same things a lot of the time, when it comes to bling!

I recently pondered this when I saw a few beautiful pieces on GOG and JbEG but in the end opted not too. I''m too anal / too type A personality, I''d be too worried that they''d mismatched. I *know* because I sold my 1.03ct G VVS1 recently (it differed from the other stone by 0.30mm!!). I know I know....

It''d be good if I could get over this obsessive possessive behaviour. It''d save me a lot of money!

Lucky I found 2 perfectly matched pairs at BGD.

But I definitely wouldn''t rule out this possibility in the future if I ever saw another stone I love (am yearning for a couple of OEC''s or trans'' now, now that I''ve seen so many beauties here on PS).
