I recently purchased an engagement ring from James Allen and I am still waiting for them to ship it !!! The stone is http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.00-carat-j-color-si2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-480601
and the setting is
Item # 17158P
Platinum Thin French-Cut Pave Set Diamond

I was just wondering if the stone won't look yellow since it is J color and the side stones are higher color. I wanted not too wide setting so it can make the diamond pop up more but now I am thinking that it is way too thin and common .... Do you think I made the right choice? The price on both is $4600 do you think it is a good deal for the money? The stone looks pretty good to me for an SI2 !!! Thanks for the help in advance !!!

That stone has a really big crack that appears to go all the way to the girdle. I would not buy it for that reason. There is nothing wrong with the setting you chose. But I would personally far rather have a better clarity (and maybe I color) .90 ct stone than this one.

Hello, JulianGI,

I'm not sure about the "knot" in the diamond. I've never heard that term before for an inclusion. Personally, I have a SI2 stone myself, and the inclusions it has do not bother me at all. I don't notice them at all with very near-sighted eyes, which act almost like magnifiers with the object very close to my eyes without glasses.

Since I wrote this, Diamondseeker2006 has made a comment and she is really good at this! I would listen to her advice very closely.

You may notice some color difference, but some people are more color sensitive than others. You'll have to see about that when you get it at home. My understanding is that JA can match the side stones in color to the center if you ask. You may wish to look into that.

I didn't run the diamond's numbers (proportions) through the HCA (Halloway Cut Adviser) adviser. You may wish to do that to see how it scores. The goal is for the stone to be rated below a 2.0. Your 1.00 carat stone was at 6.40x6.39mm (if my memory is correct) so it may be a little deep, which could affect the performance. A one carat is usually closer to 6.5mm. But again, you should run the numbers if you are interested.

My reset is a James Allen, but I already had a diamond so I purchased the setting from them and they set my stone. I was overall very happy with their service and quality of the setting. There was one issue with a pave stone (out of about 100 on the ring!) that needed to be replaced as it was cracked, but it was done efficiently and effectively. My independent appraiser (from the PS appraiser list) was very impressed with the quality of the ring.

Hope this helps!

If you want to stick with JA, you may want to look at other stone options. I found a couple of solid candidates for you.

Get Idealscope images for these two stones:

.91ct, I, SI1

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.91-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-491788

.91ct, I, SI1

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.91-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-456996

Get an Idealscope for the stone you had picked, as well, or another option that you may have in mind.

Post those three images here, and you'll get more feedback.

So is it possible to cancel/change my order while in production without receiving any charge or I need to wait untill I get it and then send it back ?

No clue.

I do know that they have a generous return policy.

If I were you, I would reach out to them ASAP to let them know you are weighing other options (but still want to stay with them), to try to mitigate any delays/complications.

Check with them by doing a quick chat session.

Ok so they said I can exchange it now, no problem ! Which diamond would you recommend, I read a lot about it but I am not nearly as experienced as you guys are !!! I really appreciate your help !!! From the two above I like the first one ! Is it smart option ?

It is a little bit more expensive but it is better clarity and I color ... Do you thing it is a good bargain for the money ?

Looks like a possible candidate.

Here's what you need to do:
1. Choose 3 stones that you like (the two I posted, along with the recent I-colored stone you posted are all good options)
2. Request Idealscope images of the 3 stones you're interested in
3. Post those images here, along with the link to each stone

From there, people will be able to advise you on the best choice, so you can finalize your purchase and feel confident in your choice.

I would suggest putting the stones on hold, though, as lurkers will often snatch them up.

Following those steps, you should be able to get something really solid!

+1

My understanding is that you want your side stones to be one colour grade lower than the centrestone to make it "pop".

I dont own a multi-stone ring, but this was my understanding from research before I settled on a solitaire.

All 3 stones don't have ideal scope !!! They said the vendor is out of the country ! So what would you advice me to do ? Stick with the vs2 I color stone without the Ideal Scope ? My budget is 4300 on a diamond and I thought I found the right one until I asked you guys for advice !!! I appreciate your help a lot !!!

I wouldnt buy a stone without idealscope or ASET.

there is simply too much choice on the internet for me to make a blind purchase.

So the HCA tool and the pictures they have on the site are not actually showing everything about the stone ?

Although they do not currently have Idealscope images available, would they be able to request them?

Usually it takes a few days, but I haven't heard of a situation where someone selects 3 stones that are all unavailable for Idealscope. I suppose this is possible, but I would try to speak with another agent/rep, if I were you.

If you have to wait, the stones can be reserved until you receive the required images.

I chatted with another rep and they said images are not available for the diamond I suggested and it will take 5-7 days for the other 2 diamonds ! Should I choose between the 2 stones that can get ideal scope and give up on the other one ?

Get Idealscope images for those 2 and ask them to pull another comparable stone in your price range, if you don't have any other stones that look promising.

From there, you will be able to make a much more informed decision.
