I just purchased a Tiffany & Co. solitaire .70 VS1/I Plat excellent cut/excellent polish less then 1 year old with all original docs and boxes for $3500. Was this a good buy? My girl had her heart set on Tiffany.

Assuming its all legit and in good condition, I think you've done great :) Congratulations!

I'd say that was a good deal too!

Especially considering that a GIA I VS1 round is averaging $2500+ alone (probably more for an EX cut), without a platinum mounting and no "Tiffany" mystique...

It sounds like you got a great deal. Is it a round shape? Is it a second hand ring?

Less than a year old means you did not buy it new.
Is your girlfriend is okay receiving an engagement ring that was originally bought for another girl?
Be sure to ask her.

If she's okay with it you got a good deal.
If not then you didn't, but you can probably sell it for what you paid for it, or more.

I don't see how this is any different than buying at an estate sale, auction, or the like. I think she'd be pleased he got a good deal on a Tiffany piece.

right, and some girls are NOT ok with estate sale/auction.

as far as good deal...definitely not overpaying by today's prices.

Girlfriends tastes are irrelevant of "good deal". Either the piece was worth what was paid or more, or it wasnt. Going by what Tiffany charges for a piece like this, if its in excellent condition, its still a great deal as it could likely be sold on the used market for more.

I really doubt it could be sold on the used market for more?

Yes I think its a good deal and I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say PICTURES PLEASE!!! :D
