Hi all,

We have pretty much agreed to buy this stone already but I thought I would ask if you guys thought it seemed like it was a fair price (i thought it was alright.) so it is a local family owned jeweler, we went to a couple places in town and this place was awesome. He ordered in 3 diamonds for us to look at, we wanted somewhere around .75 ct w/ a pretty good cut, so of the three stones he brought in, two were not a nice color and the third I really liked a lot and he seemed to be giving us a good price on it so he is going to get the setting in and we will come collect it next week and pay for it.

It is...

.72 ct
AGS 0 0 0 Ideal Cut
SI2
G color

With an AGS cert.

Now the OTHER stone that we didnt pick was

.72 ct
AGS 0 0 0 Ideal Cut
SI2
I color

(The third one was an uncerted what I thought was I1 so we didnt even consider it)

So the first one had a lot more of the feathers on the table as you could see under 10X magnification, but the two stones had the same clarity rating. He kept saying the second was going to be slightly more expensive than the first, which didnt make sense to me as the first is a G and the second is an I. Since I really like the G we went with that one, and first he was saying 3500 but then I took out my printout of online prices so then we settled on the following price,

$2,985 which included the diamond plus a simple white gold solitaire setting of my choice from his catalogue (he is actually going to order 3 that i liked from his catalogues and i will pick one that i like when they come. We are also paying him in cash so we won''t pay any tax.

Its slightly more than online I thought but I thought it was a good deal considering even if i could''ve bought that setting for $200-400, that would be around $2,800-2,600 for the diamond which wasn''t bad. He also spent something like 4 hours talking to us this week. So ive looked at online prices and i probably could find it for cheaper but this was a good deal especally for a local jeweler who has the overhead of keeping the building open, right?

did you pricescope your diamond to see how it compares in price to diamonds of similar stats?

It will help if you had more info on the stones. crown and pavilion angles, depth % and table %, then you''ll know about the cut. As for price, you can enter the specs in the diamond search on the first page to give you an idea about price. Just make sure you''re comparing apples to apples.
