This weekend I was inspecting my ring closely, and as I ran my finger around the edges of the girdle I could distinctly feel an indentation. My diamond has an indented natural on the girdle, but I swear I never felt this before (I am very anal about my diamond and am always inspecting it closely!). Is there anyway to tell whether it is a chip without bringing it to the jeweler or an appraiser? If I have chipped it would you recommend having it polished out? Luckily, my ring is fully insured, but my wedding is less than 3 months away and I am freaking out a little bit right now.

I don''t know, but I am also curious on an answer. I have an older stone that seems to have an indent at the edge of the table. I hardly wear it, but I don''t remember it ever being there. Maybe a flaw could work it''s way to the surface??

Unless you own a loupe, I don''t know how you could tell. Just take it to a jeweler and have them look. I seriously doubt they will charge you for that (in fact I''m just about certain they won''t), and you''ll know one way or the other. Then go from there.

Ditto. That way you will know for sure, then IF there is an issue, you know to contact an expert who can advise a course of action.
