Hi everyone! I have been lurking for a few days and am very impressed with the knowledge of people on this forum. It has taken me a few days to work up the nerve to post my question, partly because I may not really want the answer! Well, anyway, my husband purchased a wedding set for me for our 25th anniversary. Let me mention that he purchased the ring in an antique/vintage jewelry store that is considered reputable. He was told the ring is circa 1920''s-30''s (I have a love of older rings). I may not even be posting this in the right section, but the center diamond is GIA certified so I thought I could get an opinion as to whether he paid too much for the set. Let me also mention that I absolutely love this set, so if he did make an error please be gentle lol. He and I, like so many "lay people", focus on color and clarity when evaluating a diamond and don''t consider cut, which I am quickly learning from this forum it is quite important. The GIA report states: round brilliant, 1.03 carats, G, VS2, thin-medium girdle, good polish, very good symmetry, culet none, table 63%, depth 57.7% I know that the table is very large due to my new-found knowledge. This report was done in 1998 and does not include the pavilion or crown angles. The setting is white gold and consists of two separate rings that have two .07 diamonds, 21 .02 stones and 20 .01 stones. He paid $4000 for it.
Let me also mention that we don''t really know a whole heck of a lot about this ring. The setting is in pristine condition, maybe the stone was added at a later date, I don''t really know.
As I''ve said, I adore this set, looks big, pretty and sparkly on my hand, but for some reason I am obsessing that he paid too much. Should probably just let it go, but I can''t help but be curious about it. I''m a big girl, I can take it, but try not to be hard on my hubby, he''s a great guy lol!
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to reply!
