Interesting question for me.....purely because I remembered a jeweller I had visited nearly 5 years ago looking for a setting. He had a setting that I thought was fabulous for a round. I had an emerald at that time.

Fast forward to today. Out of curiousity , I went there again this week. He still has the setting. He has taken the setting to a new level in terms of design and what shaped stones he is putting into it now. I pretty much still love it with a round as the centre stone. Anyways I tried it on again and just fell in love with the setting all over again....it had a 1.2ct rb centre stone....

I wonder if anyone''s decision about the stone they choose is driven by a setting they have already fallen in love with?

Did I ever! I bought my 1.08 pear just for this setting. The dots will be teal diamonds. It''s being custom made right now and I am DYING to have it.

Sorry, first upload didn''t work.

Yep. I started out wanting a princess cut, then fell in love with a Beverly K halo setting with an RB. I never thought I would want a RB but I loved the setting so much that I changed my direction completely. And I''m very glad I did!

Yes I found my setting first! I knew what I wanted in a setting. We found the setting when we went to a "diamond event" at a B&M store... they had tons of settings out on display. I found a few I loved, and the one I loved most of all. After finding the setting we looked at it with different shapes and sizes of stones. My husband went back later and had it set with the round stone.

You know whats funny... I never ever knew the "designer" or "brand name" of my ring... but when I was browsing PS tonight I followed a link to a different websites and got looking at the settings. and there mine was!!! Isn''t that weird!?

Yes, I did. I started out looking for the setting first, I had seen one 10 years previously that I fell in love with, and knew my final setting would look like that one. I saved a picture of it and found one like it years later. I didn''t know anything about diamonds then, so most any stone would have done. I was just very lucky that my setting could support any stone, because as I learned more about diamonds, my taste in size and quality changed quite a bit. I still love my setting!
(Now that I know all the things I know about diamonds, I would definitely find the stone first.)

hearts-arrows_girl Do you mind if I ask where you got your setting, or if you know the designer? It is lovely.

Amy, I got my setting at Robbins Brothers, Canoga Park. It was $599 and the stones are VS1 G-H color. It is not a designer set. I got a discount from my fiance''s niece, so I paid about $500. ( I know most on here hate RB, but I did great with them because I knew the sales ladies personally and knew what I wanted, I paid a premium I''m sure, but my fiance picked the place and I picked the ring,) The wedding band I bought separately and had welded onto the engagement ring. The band was $1,100 with VS G-H stones. I looked at alot of channel set bands that looked cloudy, but the VS well cut stones in these settings were amazing and it didn''t hurt that my center is an H color, so all the stones match perfectly. Thank you sooo much for complimenting my set. It was my dream set.

Not too specifically. I did realize the fisrt time I put on a cathedral setting that I had to have one. It just complimented my hand and the stone so well! But you can put pretty much anything in a cathedral setting so I guess that doesn''t really count!

Its so pretty :) I have sometimes wished we picked a band with bigger channel set diamonds, like yours. But now I will just drool over yours when I see your posts and that will suffice!
