Diary of a Lady Waiting In the Dark

I decided that I needed an outlet to share all of my "craziness" as I eagerly await the proposal. Here is a little history of how I got here:

I am a very particular lady. FF knows this and because of the fact, he normally just lets me pick out my own gifts. Months ago we looked at some stuff online to get an idea of what I liked and what he could afford. He tried to take it from there. After months of frustration, he pleaded (or kinda threatened me, lol) for help. I gradually kinda took over the search. I eventually realized that he had probably made the right decision in recruiting my help. I''m just more thorough with due diligence than he is. Anyway, I was kinda disappointed because I thought that I wouldn''t get the surprise proposal that I had always dreamed of. But thanks to the kind folks of PS who gave me such great advice I came up with a solution. I would be completely in the dark after I saw to it that the ring was paid for. I would know nothing about the progress, completion, arrival, etc. We ordered the ring last Wednesday so that makes it six days that I''ve been in the dark. On Day 1 of being in the dark, I changed my setting as many of you know. I''m a very indecisive person but I think that the change was a smart move. Since the change, I have had no contact with WF.

So, I decided that I would write a diary about it. Like to hear? Here it goes...

Day 6

I''ve been trying to pass time by reading the forum boards on PS and looking through the Engagement folder on Show Me the Bling.

The anticipation is slowly eating away at me! For the second night, I haven''t been able to sleep well. On Sunday night, I had a nightmare about the wedding. Last night, I had another weird dream but it wasn''t about the wedding. I just tossed and turned all night!

According to the website, it takes 8 business days for the new setting to be made. The old setting would have taken 4 weeks. I would be bald after 4 weeks! Today is the 3rd business day. The 8th business day is next Tuesday. I wonder how the progress is coming. I wonder if it will ship early or if it will ship late. I just wonder...about everything!

FF and I have two spa appointments this weekend. Hopefully, that will take my mind off it albeit for a brief period!

I totally understand your feeling. My bf just ordered the Tacori setting yesterday. It will be here by the first week of May the latest. It takes 4 weeks to make!!! After that, he has to ask me for the diamond since I have it in the safe deposit box in the bank. Then, he''ll have it sets and appraises. That will take a few more days. The thing is, I don''t know if he''ll propose as soon as he gets the ring. I might have to wait for a few months.

My BF has the ring, but I have to wait until his next trip out here. We''re on opposite coasts for the time being, but one of us will be moving soon. At least I know I''m very likely to get the ring on his next visit.

Go get a hobby...quick! Something....anything to take your mind off it! I have entirely too much free time on my hands. I''ve decided to focus on dropping some extra weight while I wait. Yesterday, I went jogging in the park after work. I was going to do the same today. But guess what? I forgot my sneakers at home. Yesterday, I forgot my breakfast sitting in the microwave. I''m blaming it on the lack of sleep, lol.

I am totally in agreement here! I don''t know how people stand the wait at all... and my head would pop off too if my bf had possession of the ring so he better never let me know lol

The best thing I find to help me keep distracted is to do a crossword or read a book...something that takes over your mind for a little while!

Legally, my PS friend!

Glad to hear that it's only 8 more days! It might feel long now but I'm sure it'll be done before you know it! I did this the other day: Spend some time experimenting with nail polish and find that perfect color you want to be wearing around the time you get to wear the ring! I spent a good hour doing that in a store. I'm sure they thought I was crazy, but I walked out with about 20 different colors on my poor fingernails and only bought one. But it's THE ONE

You know my story... I chose the diamond after 3 months of searching and then picked the setting after another one to two months, and then waited 6 weeks for the ring to be made... and now it's going to be done this Thursday (I'll get pictures of it... awesome but torture)!!! He gets the ring this Friday! And then he has from Friday to Tuesday night to propose. I'm not sure when he will but he and I both know it's going to be within that time frame. He says he has a surprise but only a few times we're only together a couple times this weekend so he only has limited time slots to do it. Only a couple more days left, and less than a week maximum until the proposal. Feel like it's so far away doesn't it?! But it's not!

I try to say to myself, what's another few days or weeks compared to wearing it for the rest of my life?

Let us wait and try to think of other things together!

It is so close but so far away!

I get a manicure every other week but my manis aren''t lasting as long as since I''ve moved in with FF because I have been washing more dishes. I sorta have a reputation for impeccable nails - they are my pride and joy. I''ve been going in and getting a re-polish in between my manis! Oh, and I''ve been strategically doing chores around my nail schedule! I''m sure I sound a tad bit high maintenance right now but it is my nails, I swear! They are so used to being pampered. They chip and crack if I don''t get a mani regularly and keep polish on them.

Anyway, I''m going to stick with one of my staple OPI colors probably.

And my hat goes off to you Cinna. Searching 3 months for the diamond and then waiting a few more to find the setting? I would have hoped on the first "setting" train smoking!

And then...another 6 weeks for production. Geez Louise. I can''t even imagine! But woohoo. Friday is like ALMOST tomorrow. (My eyes just got really big and I started clapping, lol.)

Limited timeframes? I would be anticipating something with every step that he took!

You wanna know what other things that I''ve been thinking about? Dates, venues, photographers....

Another night and another weird dream. From what I recall here are some of the elements of the dream: my boss from my first professional post-college job, wild animals (lions, tigers, etc) in the office as pets, twenty rowdy high school students, and my wedding entertainment being on the line. Don''t ask me because I don''t know, lol. I do remember having to let a lion out to take a poo.

Last night, I got in bed with my laptop and got on the PS boards before calling it a night. I was in the SMTR engagement folder and FINALLY found someone who has my ring. BUT there was only 2 pics and there weren''t any details on the post that I found, just two small pics. I then began searching through the 242 pages of the pricescoper''s posts. After two hours, I gave up looking...for the night. (I''m determined to see more!) Before you judge me,

, that is my personality. I obsess over things...which is why as much as I love weddings and party planning...I''m not looking forward to planning a wedding.

Anyway...while I was searching for more pics of my future ring, I had time to reflect. I started to think about what I was excited for. I have spent so much time obsessing over the ring that I''ve begun to forget what it is all about. I don''t want him to get down on one knee and I get so excited to finally see the ring that I don''t even hear the proposal. I emphasized to FF how important having a proper proposal is to me and I need to not forget that all of this is about us making a commitment to each other forever.

So, I''m going to try to obsess less about the ring and more about the man. The ring will just be the icing on the cake!

Ooooooooooh, I almost forgot! I think FF is dancing with anticipation for the ring''s arrival too. Last night over dinner, FF asked me "um, shouldn''t your mom be calling me about the ring?" (Note: We had the ring shipped to my mother first...long story). I had to explain that once the ring was ready, WF would email pics of the it and give him the shipping information. I also told him that per the website, the setting that I selected takes 8 business days to make.

AND that is adorable about your FI being so excited about the ring too. In the future, if you're ever around the DC area we should meet up, we sound so alike, as well as our FI's! Mine... for the last week has not stopped saying how he can't wait to see it because he know's it's going to be so beautiful. And for the last couple months has not been able to stop saying "You know all those girls who come up to you and show you their Tiffany rings so they can brag??? You don't need to brag, your ring will do all the talking. Your ring will blow theirs out of the water! BLING BLING!"

Exactly Legally! I told my FI the same thing a couple days ago. That I'm honestly not as excited for the ring, but excited to be able to spend our lives and future together, and the ring was just another step closer to that. Yeah, he told me the only tme we spend together is late friday night, sat morning, late sat night, sunday night or tuesday night.

Psh. We've narrowed it down to two dates already, know the venue and have told them our two dates, and I'm seeing if I can get this photographer I want to come down from New York to photograph my wedding. We've already chosen the wedding favors, have our tentative color scheme for our wedding and bridal party and I know what dress style I want. And I've already set up our wedding page... I told him to do it and he was like awwww, do I have to? I figured with that kind of attitude, I would be better off doing it myself and telling him to update it later.

Maybe you can look into insurance as well for your ring to divert your focus. Since it's not that far away, gather the paperwork you need and review the application and their policy of what happens when you file a claim. I heard that most people if something does happen to their ring, it happens within the first couple years of wearing it.

I found it! Here is the link. All of the pics are small unfortunately but at least it gives me an idea! It is the Whiteflash "Legato" shared prong melee. The only difference in the setting is that Jelly has 12 three pointers and my ering will only have 8. I''m a little worried that the plain band will be exposed but Jelly wears a 7.5 and I''m a 6.25. Hopefully, the melee will completely cover my finger and not expose the band. (fingers crossed!)

FF is sooo much better at hiding his enthusiasm over stuff. When I am excited about something, I talk about it all day everyday. When he is excited, he just makes a slight mention of it! At least your FF shares his excitement! And I''m sure he is right. Your ring is going to be a real "eye catcher." I''m not the bragging type either. I prefer to let stuff speak for itself.

And O.M.G. Stop the presses! I''m from the DC area! I''m actually going to be in town over memorial day weekend for a five days. My cousin is getting married and I''m part of the bridal party. We should do lunch.

I''ve been doing plenty of wedding research for months, ever since FF gave me the green light to go to one of the local bridal shows. I won''t call it planning because I haven''t really contacted vendors outside of emailing a few of my fav venues to see if they had 10/10/10 available. I have decided on a color palette and FF and I have talked a few times about the bridal party. Oh, and I think I know the style of dress that I want. But I haven''t tried anything on yet. Oh, and I have a password protected blog where I''ve been posting all of my ideas so that I won''t forget anything.

The plan is that I am in the dark. I want the proposal to be a surprise so I don''t know what that plan is. I won''t know when the ring leaves WF, when it arrives at mother''s, or when and where she ships it here. If the ring is finished on time, it will ship out to my mom next Wednesday.

Ha. I''m like that too. I told my bf I want it to be a surprise, yet I''m very anxious. I want him to propose "without me knowing" as soon as he gets the ring. lol. The other day, we were planning our summer trip in Aug. I was like... by then, we''ll be engaged. He said... we might not be...

On the other hand, I''m kinda enjoying this moment. Once I''m engaged, I feel like I have nothing to look forward too. (other than the wedding itself) I''m a mess. lol

I have good news! I didn't have any wild and crazy dreams last night! I only spent about 10 minutes on PS last night before going to bed. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

I've been trying to focus my attention on all kinds of other things. Anything that will get my mind off the proposal and the ring. It is helping.

Last night, the battery in my cell died. When my Mom couldn't reach me, she tried FF. He immediately asked, "is the ring here!!?" She laughed and told him no. Note, I was at home and FF was at grad school. When my battery charged, she called to share the story. She thought it was cute. She also said that he really wanted to propose a month ago when all of my parents were here (I have two sets, mom/stepdad and dad/stepmom) but he didn't have a ring. (He knows how important family is to me.)

Also, last night my Facebook status was: Legallyspoiled is on cloud no. nine and knows that she is a lucky girl. FF commented on my status with an impromptu song:

I think that I should be in pretty decent shape until Monday. Tomorrow, I have an appointment to get my lashes groomed and we usually spend Friday evenings watching cable tv. Saturday and Sunday, we have spa appointments and will probably do brunch. It is so easy to keep my mind off it when I am spending time with him! There is an international gem show in town this weekend. However, I doubt that he wants to see anymore diamonds for a while!

Thanks Beezy! My heart is melting all over the place these days. He definitely has his moments. He isn''t a romantic all the time! But who can be? I will say that FF is more affectionate than most guys that I have dated...with out being all overly sensitive and mushy. Just small things like giving me a kiss every morning in the bed before he leaves.

Last night I realized that the delivery of the ring will likely come while we are at work which means the USPS will leave a little note in our mailbox telling us to come pick it up. FF likes to check the mail once everyone 1-2 weeks. (He says nothing but bills come anyway.) I like to check the mail daily because I get cool stuff like magazines and checks from the state for probation hearings that I do. Thus, I have taken over mailbox duty. I realized last night while getting the mail that I should probably relinquish the mailbox key to him until he proposes to prevent being tipped off by the mailman. He kinda joked about me just continuing to check the mail and pretending like I don''t see the delivery notice when it comes.

I''m getting use to being in the dark now. I''ve started up my wedding "research" for vendors and ideas. Also, I''m working out 1-2 times a day. It has helped tremendously with the ring/proposal anxiety.

Still, I can''t help but guesstimate when the ring WILL get here. It will be ready on TUESDAY if it is finished on time. I''m assuming my Mom will receive it WEDNESDAY. She''ll work her magic with it and ship it to us Registered/Insured USPS. I''ve heard that registered/insured USPS mail (especially of that value) takes a little longer because it requires a signature every time it gets moved. My official guess is 4 additional business days so hopefully we will get it by Tues. April 27th. OMGosh! I was really hoping for next weekend. Oh well...back to enjoying him. Does anyone else want to take a guess? We could get a pool going, lol. Sorry no prize. Just bragging rights.

If you don''t think about it, it''ll be here sooner than you think. That''s my theory. :p For example, I thought my ring was ordered on Monday. I kept on thinking 4 weeks it will be here. I''m kinda counting the days like you. However, my FF called the guy to confirm and he said the computer at Tacori was down.

FF is still waiting for the guy to email him the receipt of his deposit. Now... I don''t know if it''s ordered yet. FF will call to confirm today again.. *cross my fingers* that means I have to wait longer now. My plan is I''ll just forget about the ring and "pretend" not to care. Hopefully it will come sooner.
