Diamonds in Toronto

Hello,

I''m just beginning initial research into diamonds and vendors, and know the sort of style I''m interested in (Lucida style ring in platinum). While Tiffany''s is lovely, it''s a bit out of our price range. Does anyone know of a reputable dealer in the Toronto area where we could have the ring made?

Hi,
We bought our stone from GOG and had it set locally in Toronto at The Jewel Case in the 21 Dundas Square building. Their prices seemed pretty good, though I have to say I''m not 100% satisfied with my gold half-bezel setting. The half bezels holding the diamond aren''t perfect curves - the rest of it looks fine. Could be I''m just picky, and it was custom work, but I was hoping for perfection. At least they did fix it up from what it looked like before for free... I''m not sure if they work in platinum.
They do sell diamonds, and the owner (Perry) seems to know a fair bit. At least he does stock some H&A diamonds and does have some stones with AGS certs. He showed us one 1.02 (?) D VVS1 or VVS2 H&A AGS diamond that he would have sold to us for a little over $13000. Told us a similar stone would go for $30000 at Birks. He seemed to have pretty decent prices on his diamonds and at least had a H&A viewer and would let you have a look through the loupe. If we hadn''t wanted a bigger K SI1 and had had a bigger budget, we would have seriously considered buying the diamond from him too.
Hope someone else has good recommendations in terms of platinumsmiths! I think USACerted''s Martin Sheffield has a good reputation on here too, and I believe he has recommended jewelers for custom settings to people in the past.

I have worked with a jeweller at 21 Dundas Sq. in Toronto with great success. He had a nice selection of stones and he certainly had a setting like the Lucuda. This jeweller was recommended to me by Martin Sheffield of USA Certed Diamonds in Thornhill. I will send you a PM with the jeweller I used.

I second what drk had mentioned. You may want to check out Jewel Case. Perry''s prices are reasonable. I have been using them for about 10 years. I am having a pair of diamond earrings custom made and they should be ready in a week or two. I can''t wait for my earrings

With my recomendation, a few friends of mine have bought engagement rings fom Perry as well. If you do decide to do, PM me and I will give you my name, you can tell Perry that I send you.

I have heard a lot of good things about Martin at USA Certed as well. I know that Martin does not have the stones in stock but he can certainly help you search for a nice stone according to your budget.

They are highly reputable and are private to their own clientele.
