hi please could someone help. I have found a diamond but the GIA report says cloud in characteristics can anyone shed some light and whether this affects the diamond? I have attached the GIA report price is about £550 or $900.
just realised that the cert might not be viewed that well diamond is d colour vvs2. Am i right in saying that cloud should not affect the performance of the diamond as it is vvs2 in clarity?
I am not familiar enough with numbers on princess cuts, but I would recommend that you stick with ones that say excellent or ideal cut and symmetry. That has more to do with the beauty of the stone than does the color and clarity. I hate to see you pay for D VVS and get a poorly cut stone. You need to look at vendors who have pictures of the actual stones. It is dangerous to buy anything other than maybe a round by a cert only.
If you look at James Allen and just put in your size, color, and clarity preferences for a princess cut, you will see that the "good" cut stones are far less attractive for the most part than these.
Thanks for that but I have no idea what Im looking at and if Im being honest they all look exactly the same. We do things a little different in Blighty and suggest that it is solely based on price why people get what they do but I want to make sure im getting good value. Vendors in UK dont have pics. I see that you think I should stick with better cut diamonds but is it going to make a difference when 90% is inside the setting? Thank you for your help we dont realy have anything like this to advise in UK as far as i can see. To stay in budget should i comprimise on size, colur or clarity or all of them to get a better cut stone?
The cut is more important than any other factor. The top of the diamond is what people see and it is extremely important to get a well cut stone. Look at this stone and compare to the others I linked:
It is easy to see that it is not as symmetrical as the others and certainly won't have the brilliance of the better cut stones.
If D VVS is important to you, that is fine. But you would be hard pressed to see the difference between D and E or even F color as all are considered colorless. In addition, VS1 is extremely high clarity and consumers are ususally hard pressed to see inclusions even with a 10x loupe. If you want to look at some with different specs, I'll be happy to link some for you! Just let me know the dollar amount you are willing to spend.
As an example, if you want to go to E VS1, you could go up to .47 cts. which would make a difference at this size range:
There is a company in UK that charge about 10-15% more for IGI and GIA diamonds than EGL and AGI graded diamonds. Am I still ok going with the "cheaper" certificated diamonds? Seems a bit stupid to me this being the case? Whats the point of having certificated diamonds if they are more expensive depending on the lab that produces the report?
We dont have the privilege of looking at diamonds like on the james allen website so im going to have to buy it blind unfortunately but I guess the better ones are going to be more expensive arent they so ill compromise.
?? sounds stupid to me? have been checking the "cheaper" online outfits here in UK and it appears that all there diamonds have either feather? needlepoint?, indent?, crystal? chip? or cloud? in them. I assume that I shouldnt buy a diamond with these characteristics? I here that a cloud is no big deal with vvs2 or better clarity is there any advicxe on the other stuff.
Am wondering about buying a diamond in the states as i have friends that live there and regularly come back but im not sure if they'd get stung for import duty? If I can would someone be able to pick me out a nice one form one of the better dealers over there.
Thanks,
