You lucky, lucky girls....to have guys who not only have the $$$ to keep you in diamonds - but who love to buy them for you!!

But I have another question to add to this - how do you feel on the sentimentality of your very first engagement ring diamond? Do you feel the sentimentality carries over in each new gift of a diamond? Or are you just not sentimental types?

I am sentimental towards my little .25 diamond. I will always keep it. Any other rings I get are just jewellery as far as I am concerned.

My first ring was a .33 ct round [my hubby''s grandmother''s stone] which I still have and will be passed on to my daughter. We upgraded to a 1.62 princess on our 15th anniversary and now I have a 2.52 FLY radiant which we just got last Monday. This was a late 25th anniversary present[we are now at 27]. I did trade in my princess stone for this ring. I''m pretty sure this will be the last. I can''t imagine getting anything bigger. I love the new stone and setting and even better, my hubby absolutely loves the stone and setting. He''s as excited about this ring as I am which makes me feel good.

Wow, I can''t wait to see all of your future upgrades. I might change out my rings but I am very happy with my new diamond. I had my original ering and ring guard diamonds (.15 and .025 x 2) mounted in a white gold heart. I really wanted to be able to wear those diamonds. It turned out really nice. Here is the link to it on PS.

I upgraded almost as soon as I got the wedding photography back. The diamond was so small you couldn''t even see it in the hand shot close ups. Now that''s small. I upgraded to a .57 and that held me for a long, long time. For our 15 year anniversary I got an oval, didn''t like, got a pear, didn''t like, got a round and I''m sticking with it. It''s only about a quarter of a carat larger than my first upgrade, but it''s a much better cut diamond. I don''t think I''ll ever upgrade again.

I am sentimental with my very first diamond. It will always be the diamond I became engaged with, it''s closer to my heart now. I don''t think my present diamond I have would be as sentimental as my next upgrade which will signify a special time and moment in our life together.

I actually still have all of my old diamonds, including the first one. I switch off now and then and wear the older stuff because it does all still have meaning for me...and DH generally gives me these things for anniversaries, bdays, valentine''s day and sometimes "just because" and each piece kind of has a little story. I don''t intend to get rid of any of them!

I''m like Mamala-I upgraded after 1-week...Returned the ring, basically!

allison, there are a few PSers who have upgraded before 24 days are up!! i don''t know what the record is for sure but i seem to recall someone trading something back within about 5 days of purchase for larger?

i realized this wkd that this is the longest i have had one stone since we got engaged! i''ve had my 2.32 for 1.5 years now. i feel like we have come so far together ! hehe.

LOL! So how''s its size holding up? Is it shrinking???!

I haven''t upgraded...yet. My plan is to do so on our tenth anniversary. I''ve got 8 years 9 months to go (yes, I''m counting). The plan, for now, is to keep my e-ring and wedding set, replace my center stone and turn the current one into a necklace.

I''ve been looking for "future" settings and ideas since we bought my ring together. It''s simple platinum solitaire with the emerald cut diamond, and I do love my diamond, and feel very sentimental about it. But I never planned to keep the simple setting. I wanted to add sapphire sides maybe, and/or a diamond band, and more -- various ideas. I''ve had it a little over a year, been married 10 months.

My husband and I were having a discussion one day recently after I admired a setting on some saleswoman... He made it clear that my looking around at other rings actually hurt his feelings, and that it seemed as if I''d been "looking for something better" since the minute we got my ring. He said he was all about marking occasions and anniversaries in the future, but to upgrade or even look at future options, when I''ve had the ring for 14 months, made him feel that I thought my ring wasn''t good enough.

I LOVE my ring, even though it''s simple, but I reminded him that I went for the plain solitaire at the time because I wasn''t sure what I might want to live with, and we could always add to it/change it. (we were in a hurry to get a ring on my finger because he was about to be out of the state on business for several months) So I chose the solitaire at the time, thinking I''d change that before long, but now I think it will be later rather than sooner.

The look on his face when he said he felt I didn''t love my ring...oh! knife to the heart, for me...

So, I''m secretly saving various pics I like but I won''t let him see me doing it -- and won''t mention "one day I would like to do ___ to my ring" again! If I had had no input and he had given me an inferior diamond or too small or yucky setting or whatever, it might be different, but we studied up on this and carefully chose the diamond together and it''s beautiful. I did remind him that I did say at the time that I didn''t want the solitaire setting forever! But I won''t bring it up for a while.

n-jo

(really love your setting there, tberube!)
