Diamond trying to jump ship!

Hi all... I wasn''t sure if this was the right place to post my questions, but here goes.

My husband had my e-ring custom made by a local jeweler in July of 2006. Well, since then my 2ct center stone has come loose at least 7 times. They have "tightened" the prongs and rebuilt the prongs(they seem huge now), but nothing is keeping it secure. I am starting to get really frustrated and terrified my stone will fall out (even though we have it insured). I don''t wear it every day and I never hit it on anything...
So my question is... What should I do? Should I have it placed into a different setting or made with platinum (now it''s white gold)? What kind of setting may keep it more secure. We are also moving in 2 weeks 9 hours away from our current home and I don''t want to worry about bringing it home to have it fixed all the time.

If I were you I would put v-prongs on that baby, much more secure for a princess. And the original jeweler should know that...

I had though of that too... I love that look, I think it looks delicate, more sophisticated. The "shank" and just my ring in general just seem so bulky... I''m thinking an overhaul might be in the works... I really just don''t know what to do or where to begin.

You have a beautiful set. You certainly don''t want to worry about loosing your gorgeous stone!! I usually see the square shaped prongs used on princess cuts. I don''t know how easy it is to change the prongs but 7 times is 7 too many. Something needs to be corrected.

It would probably be better...but a halo with a bezel would be much more secure. The issue is that princesses have sharp corners and they should be protected, and anything that goes either over the sharp corner (like the prongs you have now) or goes on either side might not protect it as much as you''d like.

Regardless though your jeweler has NOT rectified the original situation!

I second NeatFreak's vote for a bezel: my very favorite Leon, bar none, is his bezeled princess (Stuart Moore also makes similarly styled rings). Safe, tremendously striking, and a subtle illusion of greater size ....

ETA: Pic found in the Show Me Your Leon! thread, though it's water-marked IceMine ... I'd completely forgotten that. Still shows the style, though!

Thank you all sooo much for your help... I am going to discuss these options with my husband tonight.
I do like the look of v-prongs... I just don''t like them with my current set. Maybe I could change my setting to more of a solitaire with baguettes or something to accomodate the v-prong; and be visually appealing to me? I also like the look of the bezel... I just want to find a permanent, safe solution. Truthfully I am horribly sentimental and am saddened that this ring I love so very much, will probably have to be changed...

If you''re going with Whiteflash, this is one of my favorite settings there, in addition to the ones geckodani suggested. It does have V-prongs in the princess version. There is also a solitaire version of this ring, but it sounds like you might want a little more bling.
