Hi Everyone,

I’ve been educating myself on here for a couple of weeks now and have narrowed down my search to the following diamonds.

I am contemplating whether it’s worth getting a premium diamond from either white flash or Brian Gavin or to find an unbranded diamond with similar proportions. I have the following diamonds in mind:

1.717ct F VS2 $30,672 AUD
D-61.7%
T-56.7%
CA-34.7
PA-40.7
Star-53%
LG-77%

1.668ct G VS1
D-61.2
T-56.1
CA-34.6
PA-40.8
Star-52
LG-77

The following diamonds are all GIA XXX unbranded diamonds that I could find across the web:

option 1 $28,331 AUD
1.59ct E VS2
D-61.2
T-57
CA-34.5
PA-40.8
Star-55
LG-75

option 2 $28,700 AUD
1.78ct D VS2
D-61.9
T-56
CA-35
PA-40.8
Star-50
LG-75

option 3 $24,256 AUD
1.7ct F VS2
D-61.7
T-58
CA-35
PA-40.6
Star-50
LG-80

Option 4 $27,727 AUD
1.65ct F VS1
D-62
T-57
CA-34.5
PA-40.8
Star-55
LG-75

I would like to hear your thoughts on the above or if you recommend any similar diamonds.

Thanks in advance

For the virtual stones (non branded) we would need to see pictures/videos. The nice thing about BGD and WF is that you know you are getting the absolutely best cut. GIA rounds their numbers so you can't count on the numbers being exactly as stated (e.g. numbers are "averages"). WF and BGD use AGS which is more precise in how they measure stuff. Virtual stones don't usually have ASETs or IS images, which is another downside. However, some do and are great.

WHat is your budget and desired color, clarity, and size? I can try to find alternatives that are unbranded.

Both diamonds that are branded will be lovely. My perosnal preference is WF because they have a $1 upgrade policy whereas BGD does not (and neither do any of the other vendors with unbranded stones). The only other vendor to my knowledge with a $1 upgrade policy is High Performance Diamonds (also has branded stones and is as good as WF and BGD)

Thanks for your response. The unbranded ones are all eye clean. The reason why I didn’t post links was to see if the performance of the diamond can be estimated just by reading those proportions as that’s all I can judge on when picking my own unbranded diamonds as to me, the photos/videos all look the same in terms of the performance at this range of proportions.

My budget is 25k - 30k aud (preferably closer to 25k if it’s unbranded for the similar carat size as above)

Size > 1.5ct
Color = G+
Clarity = VS2+

Thanks

The reason we need to see pictures is because we need to see if there’s leak. How the arrows look and all. Not just about inclusion. I don’t think anyone should buy a diamond based on numbers. Every diamond is different so the picture shouldn’t look the same.

This 100%. You can't choose a diamond based on numbers alone. You need to see actual images.

I personally would choose the Whiteflash stone, because to me, knowing I am getting a top cut diamond really puts my mind at ease when buying online. Not to mention, all the other stones likely do not have ASET images to show the light return and cut characteristics. As the others have said, the minimum required for GIA stones would be photos and video.

It's SI1, though.

Totally agree and I would personally choose the WF 100%. But at least it's one that has extra images and is non branded so I think it's an ok option. But still, for this much $$ I'd want the best possible cut.

I think we 100% agree. You are absolutely right that it's better to have what JA offers in terms of images over the others just with numbers. I just think SI1 inclusions are risky when ordering internationally, and I think he is aiming for VS+ anyway. Just wanted to clarify what I meant about SI1!
