All,

Thanks in advance for some help here...

Although I''ve been looking for several weeks now for a great pair of diamond studs for my GF, I still haven''t pulled the trigger. My specs:

85 - 95 points tw
GH color
"Best" cut
VS1/2 clarity

Money isn''t the real issue, it''s mostly the impact of the stones - their brightness, flash and "pop". I''ve been looking here at the forums for a while, surfing WF, BN and others. I had almost bought a pair of from BN for around $2750 when I went into a local retailer and took a look at Hearts on Fire 77 pointers. They looked quite good, but they wanted $3400 for them, for I/J & VS2/SI1 stones. They had much more "sparkle" than I expected. I think I could see some yellowing when held sideways, looking across the girdle, but I''m not the expert. They were not certified diamonds.

While I realize the ear is more forgiving than the hand, is "sparkle" the real impact factor I''m looking for in diamond studs? This is mostly in the cut as I understand it. So how smart is it to buy studs online? Or are all "ideal" cut diamonds created equally in the "sparkle" beholder?

Not really sure what I''m asking here, sadly. Any feedback would be appreciated, perhaps even a recommendation or two if you have any.

The BN stones:

Thanks!

BN''s signature ideal are the best cut diamonds.

The other place you should check out is GOG, they have some excellent diamond studs too:

BN is a little cheaper.

Here''s 2 stones, AGS certified, H, SI1. .412 and .41. Beauties for earrings. $818 each These are ACA H&As. ctw would be .822 for under $2k with the settings. These would also be upgradeable since they are certified.

Either these 4 prongs

or these martinis

Or, if you don''t care if they are upgradeable and you want some bigger stones, look at:

or http://www.whiteflash.com/Fine-jewelry/Diamond_Studs/Three-Prong--Martini---READY-SET-TO-GO_950.htm WFER-22641-Set-WG100

Personally, I think those first two stones are an awesome price for H stones of their size, cert''d, and upgradeable!

Just noticed the measurements of the two I chose are a bit off. Stay tuned for another choice.

How about these?

They look great - pretty similar to the BNs I reference above.

Can anyone comment on key differences to look for here? The WF stones are ACA H&A. I would put them in 3-prong platinum martinis, FYI.

Sorry for not having much of a frame of reference - this isn''t a matter of taste, only sheer ignorance, I''m afraid...

Cheers!

The cut of the diamonds is what will give you the sparkle and pop you want. I just upgraded my studs to 1.47 tcw, both gorgeous AGS-0 stones with killer cuts. I couldn''t be happier. They are fireballs and they are also blazingly white. Both also happen to be color K, and clarity SI1. Are you surprised?
