I am currently shopping for some diamond solitaire studs. I''m looking around the 1 ctw mark, I don''t really want anything smaller. My wedding ring is a quite delicate antique 5 stone ring (just over 1ctw), I don''t wear an engagement ring. The largest stone in my wedding ring is around 25 points. I have quite a bit of other jewelery - stacking rings etc, but none of them have large single stones.

I presume that most people who have this size diamond studs also have a larger diamond in their engagement ring (eg over 1/2 carat). Am I going to feel/look silly having diamonds in my ears that are larger than anything on my hands?

I hope this question makes sense!

Hi Mish

I wouldn''t worry, just go with what you like! It won''t look silly at all!

No, you won''t look silly, but do buy what makes you feel comfortable. If you haven''t already, go try on various sizes, get what feels best!

i''ve heard this conversation before here. i don''t get it. is it some kind of rule like not being able to wear white after labor day?

seriously, wear what YOUwant to wear. If it feels good, it will look good. My ering has a 1.5 ct center diamond with other smaller diamonds that makes it 2.5 carats total. i wear, or was wearing (lost one saturday) studs that were 3.25 cts. total weight. I would like larger earrings. sometimes i feel like they are not quite large enough. people look at me like i''m nuts, but its me. i am waiting on state farm to call me back today about my claim. I am going to see if they will replace the set instead of just one. this may allow me to do a slight upgrade.

If you don''t wear a large diamond in an ering, you deserve to wear it somewhere. why not your ears?

I have a .33 carat solitaire e-ring and 1.81 ctw diamond stud earrings.
My ''bigger'' solitaire is a .66 carat solitaire.
I don''t feel like upgrading my original engagement ring. I feel like its the ''one'' that I will always want to wear. I got the bigger solitaire (the .66) as an anniversary ring and then the studs were a special birthday present.
Maybe people think I look funny with the larger earrings and the smaller e-ring (you can tell it''s from the 1980''s, too--it''s yellow gold and a dated style), but that''s what I feel like doing. No one has ever said anything about it. I would wonder about them, if they did.

I didn''t plan to have the proportions in these sizes--it''s what happened. However, while I could wear a LITTLE bit bigger of a solitaire, I find I actually don''t like how my fingers look with much larger stones. While I love how I look with the larger earrings. so it worked out well for me, and I think you should just buy what you want.

I think that if you think too much about these so-called ''rules'' about wearing diamonds, they end up making you spend money unnecessarily. You know what I mean--You have one size engagement ring, then, at a point where you''re more prosperous, you get larger studs, and then you ''need'' a bigger ring to look ''proportionate'' etc. etc.

I would say wear what size earrings and rings you like.

+1.

I''d say wear whichever size you like. I wear 2.3ct each studs everyday with my 3ct solitaire. Once they''re all on, the studs look about the same size as the solitaire. I''m ok with that combination (if I upgrade the solitaire, it''ll be because this is what I''ve wanted for a long time, not because it looks similar-sized to the studs).

S.o. I know had 3ct each studs and 2.7ct solitaire for the longest time.

Well, I did end up pulling the trigger, I was really just wondering aloud, I knew no one would say I shouldn''t get them.

1.08 ctw of diamond studs are on the way to me right now!
