Hi all, I''ve lurked for a while before deciding to register and I had a quick question. My girlfriend and I have been looking at rings and she wanted to use one of the diamonds from a pair of stud earrings her mother gave her as the solitaire in an engagement ring setting (for sentimental reasons).
Can you do that? Probably a dumb question, but i guess what I''m really asking is should it be done? Are there pros and cons since it had been set in earrings? She just go the earrings appraised, but hasn''t receieved the cert yet. From what the appraiser said, they are a little over 2cts tw, H color, SI1. I don''t have cut info yet.
Thanks in advance for your help.

You could make an e-ring with one of the stones, and set the other one in a pendant

I think it is a good idea.

Good point! :) But setting one into an EG is pretty routine as far as difficulty?

Yes, it shouldn''t be a problem, just a case of removing it from the earring stud setting, then adding it to the new ring.

Removing it from an earring into a ring is as routine as setting a new stone into a ring.

Thanks everyone! I know I should find a setting with stones in the band as similar to the solitaire as possible but a few seetings i''ve seen online today were vs quality and f-g in color. Am I wrong in assuming that that setting isn''t good because it is better quality?
